Carburetor Questions. Plz Help.

Alright, i have a 1967 Camaro ss. with a 355. 2.02 heads, i have a Holley 600 carb with new jets. Now the guy that did my carb for me didn;t know to much. and i basically know nothing about carbs.

So my question is this. What can i do to my carb that might make me lose a tenth or 2 in the 1\4 mile. I have a g-tech pro that i use, so far ive pulled a 5.9 0-60 and a 13.8 1\4 mile.

Is their any simple things i can do to drop some time?

And also, would pulling my air filter off just while im at the track help if i throw in bigger jets to help compensate for the extra air going in? i see tons of cars running no filters at the track. how much would it help?

If you have a well designed air cleaner, it might actually hurt to run without it. You should get a spring kit for the secondary cannister ( presume your 600 is a vacuum secondary). Especially if you have a K&N type filter; it drops less vacuum in the carb bores, so your carb opening point gets delayed.

If it's a double pumper, other than optimizing the jets, you would want to have some type of cold air routed to the inlet, either from a ram air setup, or a hood scoop.

yea its vacuum secs and a double pumper.

what is a secondary canister exactly? like i said i dont know anything about carbs :P.

i dont want to get ram air cuz i dont have a lot of money to spend, so i wanna keep it cheap and simple. just by tuning and such.

and is that the only thing i can do?

It can't be both.If it has an accelerator pump for the primaries and the secondaries it is a double pumper,if it is vaccum secondaries there will be a vaccum canister on the right side of the carb.A double pumper and a vaccum secondaries carb are two different types of Holley's.

You can also try throwing a bag of ice on your intake manifold before you make a pass. (Seriously.) It's an old racer's trick that's proven to help out on ET's.
