Well I was looking at the ZZ4s then the ZZ383s and they were just adding up to fast and not getting me the numbers and parts I wanted for the price I wanted so I searched out a engine builder out in Sacrmento, CA.

After talking with him for a month I decided to have him build me an engine exactly how I wanted it and for less then GM would have charged me. If you live in the Bay Area I can shoot you his email address.

I ordered a lot of extras from him to add on to the engine too such as the MSD ready to run Distributor, MSD wires, Pro Form wire loom, plugs, balanced fly wheel for my manuel tranny, larger oil pan, and some other goodies so that raised the price closer to another $800. Hence my $5400 total for a near turn key engine and thats with me resuing my headers, carb, brackets, alt, and a few other things.

Just to clairfy as well, this all went in my 68 camaro. I know my SN shows 95TA but I sold that a few months ago and havent got around to changing that. Here is a pic of my engine. I havent got to drop it in yet since I just got it last week. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get her in.

So, then build what you've already got!
Or leave it stock & slap a super-charger on it, either way, you've already got alot of good parts...

Just my opinion!

When I was thinking of just redoing my top end I was going to go with the Edelbrock RPM heads, Lunati Voodoo 268 cam which is the most aggresive 268 out there, comp cams magnum roller tip rokcers, push rods and lifters, Edelbrock RPM intake, and a few other goodies. That should put you at 1600 or so. From there you could add a new carb or headers if you need them or save the left over for next spring.

Those parts should wake that 327 up.

Well those Dart heads are supposed to flow 276/180 cfm @ .600 lift through the intake and exhaust, respectively. That's like LE1 or LE2 heads straight out of the box.

That last set of Trickflow heads flows 282/198 cfm @ .600 lift straight out of the box. That's more like LE2 or LE3 heads.

The heads from your first combo flow 249/199 cfm @ .600 lift. The low lift numbers aren't anything spectacular and a 327 lives up high anyway so I would say with the smaller intake runners these heads would be a waste.

Now all of these numbers are claimed from the factory website and are under ideal conditions. On the last set of Trickflows the ports are even CNC profiled to get those results.

You be the judge. I trust Dart to make a good product but the numbers are on the side of the Trickflows.

As for getting a cam. Talk to a cam designer or just call up Comp Cams, the people there can be very helpful.

next question:

it is a 2 bolt main motor. Worth building a 383 outa this block or is a 2 bolt main that weak?

If you're going to spend that kind of money I would suggest AFR's. I tried the Dart Pro1 215's and 230's before going with AFR.

I've heard it argued that the 2-bolt main block is stronger than the factory 4-bolt. I don't know if I believe that but it's really beside the point, you are not going to break that block N/A. You probably won't break it forced induction, it isn't normally the weakest link.

And with your budget, you probably can't afford the parts that will outlast that block. If you're worried about it get a main stud kit.

Jeremy

And listen to Steve and check out AFR heads, you can certainly make some power if you want to spend the money.

Heads look pretty good, rotating assembly will work. The stud kit is almost completely useless. The I-beams will probably fail before the crank walks.

It should work fine for you as long as you don't go heavy on the nitrous or boost.

If you're goal is less than 600hp then you will probably never have a problem with that setup.

Just my $.02
