wire guage

I just recently bought an 85 Z28 the last owner had a sweet alpine headunit (you know the ones that are worth more then the car) and someone stole it well whoever stole it just ripped it out and took the power wire with it does anyone know what guage wire I would have to run for the new stereo?

Thank You

im not totally sure about this but i think a 10 gauge wire is good for up to 250 watts, 8 gauge is good up to 500 watts, and 4 gauge wire is good for 1000 watts.

If it's just the headunit and no amplifiers a 16Ga will work just fine. 12Ga works better and gives a little more headroom.
