Sub ohms?

I had a JL audio Powerwedge box and decided to put the speakers in a Millhouse box. When I went to install them I noticed the dealer had replaced the original 8ohm sub with a 4ohm one. I had a problem with one one time and had a extended warranty. So now I have a 8ohm and 4ohm sub in parellel in the same box. Is this bad? Is the amp seeing a 3ohm load? I have a MTX amp that is 2 ohm stable.

Your amp will be fine, but i would go back and get a matching pair of subs.

Actually its 3.4 ohms, but your still fine if your amp does 2 ohm.

R = Resistor or resistance from the speaker.

1/R1 + 1/R2 = 1/RT

1/6 + 1/8 = .2916

1/.2916 = 3.4 ohms

I hope this helps if not let me know

Ain't no thang, just don't want him blowing an amp or something.

Smile

thanks for the ohm answer. So far I haven't blown a fuse or had any problems with the amp heating up so it must be handling it well. Have been using this setup in the other box for awhile now so should have shown a problem if it was going to happen by now. It actually sounds better than with the 2 8ohm subs.

Your am is pushing more power 2.6 vs. 4.0 ohms. That's almost doubling the power.
