Cool ?'s for satellite radio users.

Now that XM supposedly is 100% commercial-free, I'm planning on ditching my principle of not paying for radio service and getting it for my Camaro.

Have a few questions, though, and search didn't provide enough answers:

1. I am keeping the stock Monsoon head unit, so the satellite radio is going to be FM modulated, right?

2. Could you guys share pictures as to where you have installed the unit. Doesn't matter whether it is XM or Sirius, I guess, just want to get a general idea where to install it.

3. If I purchase another car kit, the same device can be used in another vehicle without another subscription, right?

4. Any differences on the brands? Basically, which one is best bang for the buck?

5. Any other recommendations, tips, tricks etc.? I have done some stereo installation in the past, so I might try to install it myself. Good idea...?

Thanks in advance!

I have alpine in my Z. I put the xm unit in the wheel well for the spare tire, along with the 1 farad capacitor. very clean install. I installed the skyfy in the suburban. It is pretty cool, can be used in the house or in the car. The car kit comes with opitions for mounting.

A site that has lots of good info is http://www.xmfan.com

I have a pioneer headunit so I just had to add the XM receiver. I hid the receiver on the pass side under the panel by where the seatbelt spool is. I hid the antenna under the carpet on the back deck. It works well. It never cuts out other then just for a second when I go under this one under pass near where I work.

I love satellite radio. I can listen to anything I can imagine and it has great news etc.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info, guys. Especially for the link!

Now..., if somebody has pics how they installed the head unit itself, please feel free to post here, PM or email me.

All further info/tips/tricks are also appreciated. Especially list of items I need to get the thing installed.

I went with the sirius because I can move it to home or any of my other cars with the docking station. That to me is the best for your money. If you go with the head unit you loose that function. Far as mounting. I lost my ash tray. I cut it out and put the mount inside were in goes. Looks very custom. I put the antenna on the dash and ran the wire under the dash. I use my cigerette lighter as a power source and hide it to look custom also. Im very pleased. In all I spent $175 for two car docking station the reciever and home docking station. Youll spend a little more for the Xm unit to dock anywhere and each unit is kind of expensive but Xm is cheaper monthly than sirius.
