Police Radar Detector Jamming?!?

I got a ticket the other day and my Valentine One never alerted me. I noticed that the cop wrote down on the ticket that he jammed the radar detector so that the driver wouldn't be alerted to the use of police radar. I've heard of radar detector DETECTORS that police use, but never jammers. Is this just another twisted, lying cop that is full of BS? Thanks,
FLeX

Re: Police Radar Detector Jamming?!?

I know the radar and laser units I use at work have a function that pops a message up in the scope to tell you if someone is trying to jam the unit, and tells you where to position it to beat the jammer. I imagine he had something similar, although I have seen writeups in police magazines about newer models that can actively defeat jamming equipment, so maybe he's just got some smokin' new model...

I know laser jammers are legal, and radar jammers are not, but can be purchased. My question is this, if you were to purch a radar jammer and mount it in a hidden spot, such as in the front nose for example, would it still effectively jam radar?

None of the jammers have been shown to work. Any that are powerful enough to work would be illegal. Only scammers sell jammers. The Rocky Mountain stuff has never worked when tested under actual conditions.

Moparman is absolutely right. The FCC would NEVER allow something like that. You'd interfere with everything you drive by.

Since most systems are doppler, just get a radar gun and keep it on, it will cancel out the doppler of the police unit and give faulty readings...

Where can you get a radar gun from? Would that really prevent a cop from a getting a good reading of your speed?

Werd, I'd like to know about using a radar gun also. That would be so cool to be able to jam their radar guns with a radar gun, lol. Then tell the cop, " I clocked YOU at 65 in a 35!!"

Re: Police Radar Detector Jamming?!?

There is a radar gun that has a mode called POP MODE. These are the Z25 and Z35 series radar guns made by MPH. I use to work in there service department working on all the handheld units. Also the Bee III has POP MODE capability. What happens is when in pop mode, the officer pulls the trigger and the radar sends its doppler signal at such a fast bursts that most radar detectors can't detect it. If they do, they will give a quick beep, but that's about it. Sounds like to me you may have been a victim of this type of technology. I know at MPH, they don't make anything that deals with any type of anti-jamming. If you can look inside of a cop car that pulled you over that is from the same district, or go to the court and ask around about what radar guns are used, if it is any made by MPH like the ones stated above, then the officer is full of crap and I would take the ticket straight to the court room. He may have been using the POP MODE and don't know the correct terminology. But since it's incorrectly stated on your ticket, it will be enough to get you out of a ticket I'm sure. By the way you can't use another radar gun to cancel out the other, I've done tried it If anyone has anymore technical questions they liked answered, just let me know, I would go into more detail, but my g/f is at home waiting on me to go pick her up.

Re: Police Radar Detector Jamming?!?

isn't it true that those pop modes are highly inaccurate? I remember reading that the gun can't get a good fix on your speed due to the burst being so short

Re: Police Radar Detector Jamming?!?

No using pop mode will not effect the accuracy. Remember all a radar gun does is measure the Doppler shift. So as long as the processor calculates the shift right, which it will always do, it will show an accurate reading. In all my time when I worked on radar's, I never had any inaccuracy problems as long as the mixer diode was in good condition. And if I did had any problems, the radar would show ghost readings, or wouldn't read at all. You wouldn't believe how accurate these things are tell you actually use these yourself, and the Z series by MPH are really good radar guns. Its been about a year since I've worked with radar equipment, but I know nothing has changed as far as the technology goes. I now work on breath analyzers, but anymore questions, I'll sure answer them
