Need help fixing up the stock system

I bought my first 4th gen (94 ta) yesterday. The speakers seem to be blown they work alright but when bass hits it sounds like complete ***. I want to keep a stock headunit in the car since it is a 25th anniversary edition trans am. Now what can I do about the speakers I heard that the factory head unit uses mismatched something or others and that aftermarket speakers will sound like crap. Are there any aftermarket speakers that will sound as good or better than the stock speakers with the stock headunit? Also the backlight on my display is two different colors. The top and bottom thirds are a light orange/red and the middle is the right pontiac dark orange/red display. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks,

Scott

I don't really want to take the chance buying a used one online since the newest one that will work in this car is already 10 years old. Unless I could find a nos headunit. I don't want to go afermarket since the lights won't match my dash lights. Also I don't want to give anybody a reason to try to break into my car. You should go to the car craft summer nats hopefully I will have time to go up this year expecially since I actually have a car to take.

About your head unit's display, I've never seen the Pontiac display before. I'm guessing that the off-colors are because there is a light in the head unit that is burnt out. The display panel probably has the red/orange tint built-in and the bulbs are probably standard whitish/yellowish bulbs. As far as your speakers, your best bet is to look online for some stock speakers. The problem with using the stock head unit with aftermarket speakers, simply put, is that the rear speakers will sound way too loud and unbalanced compared to the fronts.

Go to www.ls1tech.com 's stereo section. Two topics stickied at the top. Bingo. As far as an aftermarket unit display not matching your stock lights, many companies make units that allow you to select the display color. Some have like 72 different colors and i think there is one that has over 300!!

Well I read through those threads and they seem to apply to the newer stereo systems not to my 94. Does anybody know the specs of the 94 trans am speakers. Since my car is a 25th anniversary edition it should have the 10 speaker 200 watt system. Are the stock speakers 2 ohm of 4 ohm?

Thanks

there was a trans am made with 10 speaker system? damn, didn't know that...Try taking out the speakers, on the magnet of each of the speakers it should say how many ohms it is.
