Ground Short??

Hello,

I have this very annoying problem that just began yesterday, Its not in my T/A, But its in my 99 Grand am. And most of you guys are pretty knowledgeable here so Im asking here.

I was splicing the wires in the Radio harness ( Aftermarket radio got stolen) again so I can put the stock radio on, then all of a sudden I saw this little spark on the Black (ground ) wire. well i didnt pay much attention to it. but now that everything is back in its place everything is weird.
The radio doesnt work at allll! and the interior lights dont turn on!/???????? Huh. Is there a short?/ has anyone had this type of problem??? I mean everything works except the radio and dash lighting....

The FRIST rule in car audio...

ALWAYS disconnect the battery first BEFORE you do anything.

Have you checked your car's fuses?

Did you test them or just look at them? A fuse can "look" good but still be bad.

it definately sounds like a fuse...

what did you touch to the ground wire, perchance? ground wires don't just spark.. test the fuse at the back of the head unit as well.

Regardless of whether the fuse tester says the fuse is good....change the "Radio" fuse on the side of the dash. Many fuses will allow SOME current to still go through them, and therefore test 'ok', although they are not allowing enough current to go through to power the radio. Please just try this out first....you don't even have to buy a new fuse just yet....find another fuse in your car that has the exact same amperage as the fuse marked "Radio" and swap the two. I almost guarantee this will fix it for you!

for dash lights you can try pulling the "Courtesy" fuse....

It's got to be one of two things. Either there is a blown fuse or you have accidently unplugged something somewhere breaking the circuit to the lights.
