keyless entry not working- help please

hi, and thanks in advance for any help.
i have a 1996 Formula Firebird. the keyless fob has not worked for many years now. when it first started having trouble, only the trunk unlock button was working. i tried a new battery, no luck. later the trunk relies also quit working. i checked my fuses, they looked ok. i would just change the fuse, if i knew what fuse it is. -does anyone know that fuse?
the last think i have tried was getting a new (rebuilt) fob, and programing it to my car. the program sequence went fine. the locks clicked close, but it still does not work.
if anyone has any advice or help they could send my way how to fix it. i would be in your debt.
thanks scott

Fuses 7 & 8 in the instrument panel fuse block control the remote entry system.

You say "the locks clicked close, but it still does not work". Does that mean the door solenoids are activating, but the doors won't physically lock or unlock? I've attached schematics and troubleshooting charts that may help.

thank you peterpar. yes the solenoids are activating, but the fob does not do anything. i have tried three fobs.
the file you attached looks like it has some great information. do you know if it is specifically for 4th gen Firebird/ Camaro , or general information?
thanks for your help, i have some new things to try now.

The information was taken from the General Motors 1996 Camaro/Firebird Service Manual.

You can also check the BCM for DTC's that may show problems with the fob signal.

You could also try reprogramming the fob to the BCM: 4th Gen LT1 F-body Tech Articles

Re: keyless entry not working- help please

thank you guys, with your help (the file peterpar sent) i re walked through the steps. checked the fuses they said were the right ones.
the more i red and went into it, i was getting scared it was the body control module. i was not ready to try and replace that.

as it turned out both the old fobs i had were bad. i bought a (new) rebuilt one on e-bay just to try it. to my surprise, that did it.
thanks again for all your support.

Re: keyless entry not working- help please

Glad you were able to fix your problem. For future reference, the BCM file above shows how to use the diagnostic trouble codes to determine if the remote is sending a signal to the BCM (DTC 41). Using this procedure could help eliminate problems with the remote early on in the troubleshooting process.
