I've used countless boxes...as far as wood goes, it's one of the better ones I've tried...not the BEST really...but close. And for a sound shop to make the same thing it'll cost you twice as much...so I say go for it.

I'd still go with a Subthump box.... I'll almost guarentee the quality of that box Vs a Subthump box is like night and day..

It all depends on the subs being driven my friend. The construction of these are really really good. Of course...I built mine, but it's pretty much a copy of one of these. Being built to the exact volume size for optimal sound as specified by JLAudio helps too though probably.

Well.. the price that he is selling them for is what it costs Megabass for just CNCing the box... I'm gonna bet this box is NOT CNC cut...

Mike has seen the precision cuts of my boxes first-hand. I think his point is that you know what you are getting with a box from me. But something off ebay, you never really know. Hopefully you've heard more good things about my boxes than the ones you get off ebay. If not, the where the hell have you been?

I've looked--and those plain carpeted boxes are a dime a dozen. But you never know who you're actually dealing with--even if their rating is decent. And I have no idea who builds this particular box so I can't comment on the quality. But if they build that many, then surely they'd get pretty good at making them I will put money on it that this seller does not actually build them. Take a look at the other items he offers. Pyramid speakers, footballs, etc. This guy just "sells" stuff and happens to be associated with some factory direct products. I'd rather give my business to somebody who was devoted to f-bodies. But that's just me.

Honestly I thought their shipping was a bit high. I can almost ship two well boxes to california (>1,000 mi.) for that much. So that seller has got the shipping jacked up a bit which makes the selling price "seem" lower. Also I noticed that it said insurance is extra When I ship a box, Insurance is part of the deal. Enough to entirely cover the goods. Extra insurance is not that expensive so I voluntarily cover it. I have also accepted personal checks many times without any problems. I guess I just have a better relationship with the f-body community than the guy in the link.

This guy is a bulk seller though. Every box is exactly the same. Volumes are the same, cut-out diameters are the same, carpet color is the same, etc, etc. They are factory made by the thousands and that's why they are dirt cheap. It's hard for an individual like myself who actually does "custom" work to compete with these guys on price. I bet if you asked him to cut that box for kicker squares or put a nice vinyl cover on it--he would say it's not possible.
He also won't ship to CANADA, HAWAII, ALASKA, GUAM, OR ANY MILITARY BOXES. I have shipped many many items to canada and several to US naval ships as well as military personnel stationed overseas. I have also sent a couple items to my fans in Hawaii. I like to be more accommodating for my buyers because not every camaro driver lives in the upper 48 states. But this guy doesn't care because taking the time to get a quote and follow the necessary procedures to get the box to one of those places listed is not worth it to him. He'd rather make a quick easy sale. I hate ppl that won't even give a little effort you know...

I'm not saying don't buy that or only buy mine. All I ask is to look beyond the price and think what you "could" have. If it's important to someone to own one of my boxes, they will. If not, there's always ebay I do wish I would have saved a lot of the positive comments I've gotten from my customers and how excited they get when they see the box and get it fired up. I can definately imagine how you'd feel after you got one off ebay for $63.85--yippee

Believe it or not, but there is pride involved in owning one of my boxes. People even refer to it by name. It's kinda like when BJ Nolan was making the fiberglass stealths. They were all the rave and still are. So when somebody was selling a used BJ box, you knew what you were getting, what it was worth, and you knew it would perform because it had that reputation. I like to think that I have earned that reputation as well. Maybe not to everyone, but I work my arss off for f-body owners.

does a box need to be CNC cut to be quality?

no

im not saying that you should buy this guys box..............personally i would rather support the local fbody guy subthump

im just saying theres no reason to diss this guys boxes when you havent bought one.

btw.......i absolutely agree with what subthump said about the pricing...................lower price via mass production and standardization

also, he makes up profit in the shipping area

Mike is an avid fan because he believes in the box so strongly. It's like a lot of JL Audio guys that I always hear saying how JL's are the shiznit. To the guys that have them, Their JLs have always done them right and they wouldn't have anything less.

Certainly not, but CNC quality really does help a LOT. Things line up way better. The pieces bond so much stronger because of the tight fit and the joints are a lot smaller and require less sealant.

Like I said, this guy gets them from a large factory, where it is possible they have some precision machining. But maybe not computer automated.

I was a engineer for a furniture shop similar to this. All the wood is delivered on a truck. Unloaded with a forklift. Fed into the panel saw which cuts the rough sizes. After that they go to the specialty milling. Dividers get cut out to their respective shape and all the angled pieces are fed thru a large table saw to put the bevels on. Then all the pieces of each kind are loaded onto a skid and taken to the assembly room where a bunch of old fat guys (who are making like $8/hr) working at tables glue and staple them together. So if they can thru-put 50 to 100 boxes a day, it's easy to see why they are inexpensive. It's a wonder they don't just have the chinese do it.

Then they go to the carpet people. And that's all they do. Their whole job day in and day out is to carpet speaker boxes. Although the do have machines that can carpet boxes, but I'm not sure if machines can carpet a very complex box.

And buying the wood and glue and carpet and staples etc,etc in bulk, you can save even more and that always lowers costs. FYI, they buy wood glue in 55 gal. drums. No kidding. BTW, q-logic operates this way too but most of their stuff isn't real cheap.
