You have to be f-ing joking....

So i stopped by a dodge lot on the way home from work friday to poke around the new challenger srt they had on the showroom floor. At first glance i was inpressed, then it went downhill.

$15,000 market value adjustment for a grand total of $58,000?
$58,000 car and it has FAKE carbon fiber graphics?
Same bland dodge interior as usual....
Not available for test drive without down payment?

Then heres the kick that it right through the uprights.... the salesman told me the v6 challenger (SE model) with 17" alloys, 5 speed automatic, and the same v6 thats in every chrysler product, is going to be a $36,000 car. Whatever happened to the real musclecar war that was supposed to uprise and go back to the old days of affordable raw power?

Plus, later that evening i watched one run at the track and the best he could pull was a 13.7 IMO, 13.7 with a 425hp car is f-ing pathetic.

Chevy, please reinstate my faith in the musclecar era. Id really like to get out of imports...

Sounds like that car will suffer from the GTO syndrome of markup's so bad it won't sell to anyone but the fools who will loose their asses on one.

It will only be a $36,000 car after they tack on their $15,000 "adjustment." The Challenger SE starts at $21,995.

I think you need to visit another Dodge dealer (though I think that they're ALL gouging on the SRT8).

Starting bids close to MSRP. How much are the actually selling for? Any with a buy it now are at least $6k above MSRP and some well into the 50s Looks like most below or near MSRP are still at reserve not met.

I could get you MSRP on ANY challenger model you want to order. I can't believe some Dodge dealers still have the ***** to charge over MSRP. I can't possibly be the only one with area Dodge dealers willing to factory order at MSRP.

Go search the completed listings and see the ratio of non-selling cars that didn't meet reserve or with just stupid BIN prices to the cars that are selling at or close to MSRP. I applaud those dealers selling close to MSRP, but they're not the majority. Search these forums over the last couple of months. Look at what people were seeing Dodge dealers asking for SRT8s when they first hit. A large percentage have been trying to gouge on the SRT8.

With other, 2009 model year Challengers starting to roll out, their bargaining place is starting to weaken, but at first, $20k over sticker seemed to be the norm.

20k over on the SRT8 was the normal markup.

BUT CONSIDER...

1. Only 7051 made for 2008 (509 canada, 142 mexico, 6400 USA).
2. ONLY top end model available.
3. New gotta have it first on the block.

EVEN with all this, there are still dealers that will and have taken MSRP on them.

If your in the market you can order an 09 of ANY trim for MSRP RIGHT NOW from many dealers (let me know if you need one I can supply info). If that dealer thinks they are going to get 36k for a 21k car they wont be selling them to anyone who isn't retarded.

Shop around, Its going to be the same with the camaro when it first hits, only not so bad because of volume in the initial year.

I can't really blame them..we had one on the showroom floor in a small town for 3 days before someone chomped it for 55 grand. If you can sell them at that price..why not I guess.

The Challanger is already losing steam. Lots of prices dropping here in town. Most seem to be settling for pretty near MSRP which is not a bad thing for the consumers. Dodge really hurt themselves by not having a manual transmission availible until next year. But hey they really need every sale they can get so you can't blame them too much for the rush to market. I hope the Challanger does well simply because I want the big three to survive.

BTW when you look at the interior of the Challanger you really can see how much more effort GM put into the interior of the Camaro. As far as the Mustang interior goes I see it every day, I drive an F-150.

No. The SRT's astronomical markups are losing steam.

As with any car with crazy markups, the more vehicles availabvle, the more the markups begin to crumble. Challenger SRTs have been out since April. Challenger R/Ts and V6s have been in production for at least a month. The first-on-your-block syndrome is evaporating, and prices are coming down fast.

Until you get to sit in the interior of a Camaro, and touch the switches, materials, and components of the Camaro, and finally comparte the Camaro side by side with the Challenger, you can not make any comparason between the two.

As far as Chrysler hurting themselves by not offering a manual, I think you are basing that on nothing more than your imagination and wishful thinking. In case you have been living in a cave, under a rock, or Afghanistan the past decade, 70% of all 2002 Camaros were automatics and the previous few years were not far off that number. Saying the Challenger SRT suffered in sales because of being offered in only an automatic is like saying beach attendance suffers on a sunny day because people get sunburned. In other words, you'd be the laughing stock trying to push that assumption because the numbers say opposite.

Challenger is in fact doing well at the moment. It's bringing new buyers into the showroom as intended.
