Work on Next-Gen Colorado and Canyon for North America Under Way, Sources Say
The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon small pickup trucks are expected to end production at their home in Shreveport, La., by June 2012, but that's not the end of the road for GM's midsize twins in North America, according to our sources.
We've learned that development on the next-generation 2014 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon for the U.S. and Canada is under way, based on GM’s all-new GMI 700 body-on-frame global small truck platform that will be built in Thailand starting late this year.

Production is likely to move north, to Wentzville, Mo., where GM currently builds its full-size Chevy Express and GMC Savana vans
But why the gap? So there will be NO GM small truck for almost 2 years? Not a wise move at all. They need to at least let the Colorado hang around until the new truck can debut. Leaving the market then coming right back isn't wise IMO. They could lose 2 years worth of loyal buyers.
Based on the spy photos I've seen, it looks like a baby Sierra. It may even have more in common with the Seirra concept truck that's been floating around...

And here's a link to an interpretive rendering:

Not sure I like it. I hope it would look more like a truck and less like an SUV or minivan.
Plus, it looks too un-American to me.
If it comes to the U.S., I hope it's built here (not a knockdown kit from Thailand) and I hope it looks more like an American pick-up.

.......then full size Buicks
.......now cargo vans
. I suppose mini-trucks are somewhat a step up from the vans :/

I'd like to see more of this truck.
I hope it's not like the rendering I posted.

2 problems w/ this:
1. The "small" p/u isn't that small, it's mid-sized.
2. This creates an over lap w/ the V6 full size p/u. It needs to be smaller like original S-10.

It needs to be both smaller AND cheaper...
I actually like the looks. Not crazy about the nose, but not hating it all the same.

SIDI 2.4L should be the base engine, followed by the SIDI 3.6L. I would also love to see a 4cyl. diesel in the truck to set it apart from the competition and from other GM products. A small diesel would be a big help for CAFE too.
Or small like the current Colorado since that is almost the same size as the S-10 it replaced.
Also, I don't know where people get this idea that the Colorado is too big. I've never once heard a Colorado owner say the bed was too wide or the cab had too much room.

I'd be okay with a small diesel. They are getting 280-300 ftlbs right now from the factory. You'd get good mileage.

I have a Colorado. In no way is it encroaching on the size / space of a Silverado. (And my next truck will be bigger...)
