Will Aveo RS become a hot hatch like the VW GTI?
For some reason I would not be against them renaming this car Monza or Nova. The Monza may have been crap..but it has street cred at the drag strip now. The Nova may have been bigger than the Aveo...but I think it could be used because it is an old name most people don't have negative feelinga about..but also don't care enough about to have an uprising over.

That bit of nitpicking aside, I think they should just stick with a name for once. Yeah, it may not have the best reputation, but I don't think the general population thinks it's total crap either. It doesn't have the "old GM" ring to it. If the new car is a solid piece, I think the Aveo name will do just fine on it.

It's definitely had a styling influence on GMs recent small cars, but I've heard that the Aveo looks more similar to the Groove concept.
Even if it matches GTI's performance in handling/straight line acceleration, it's still no match for Golf/Rabbit. I hope it matches Mazdaspeed 3.
What you're dissecting here (although I understand where you're coming from), doesn't really fit.
Sure, the GTI is cool. I like it, you probably like it, and most probably would. All opinion of course.
But in the context of sales I dont think the GTI is hot at ALL and if Chevy wants to make a more GTI like would that mean less units made? Chevrolet isnt exatcly known for low volume (very low in this case), high profit vehicle making.
Any whoo... I dont agree with the premise that the GTI is a hot hatch or a necessary target. Its a weak seller. Looks neat... doesn't sell well that I know of.
As for quality look back to sources like JD power over the last 10 years for VW.
But the front nose area, the aggressiveness of the body...its like a mix of this, and the new Golf. At first glance, it looks like a three door, GM did a hell of a job hidding the rear handles.
New models are going more and more global, so any design for full production in North America should go elsewhere.
"Nova" is dead. Spanish speaking countries don't want it. Monza on the other hand, might be okay. But we already know a Spark is coming under Aveo anyway. We'll see how much of a "production" vehicle we get soon enough...
Though something like the concept shown would be pretty sweet - though in 4 door trim it is smaller than a rabbit, but as is (in a two door) it might go against a little GTI... Hmm...

GM doesn't need a Nova, and it doesn't need a Monza. People who buy an Aveo couldn't care less and probably wouldn't even know the name was a nod to former models. I'm all for sticking with the Aveo name. It's not a great car, but it is a decent name...
Everyone knows that a GTI is a Golf with upgrades. It is not a different car.
