When did you get married? Last I remember you started a thread in the lounge about moving in with your girlfriend, which of course sparked a massive debate. Well congrats!

My Equinox needs a third row seat?

It's a small SUV, not a fugging schoolbus...

Let's accept that the Equinox is a great replacement for the very nasty Suzuki-built Tracker - and also for the (finally )outgoing S-10 Blazer - but that's the best I can say about it.

I get the horrible feeling that the Equinox/Torrent is going to get a horrible beating in the sales department from crossovers like the third generations of the CRV and RAV-4, not to mention the redesigned Hyundai Sante Fe.

That thread was over 2 years ago. We are married now

Actually, your "small" SUV covers just as much highway as a "midsized" SUV like the Explorer or Pathfinder. Isn't it amazing that knucklehead "traditional" SUVs can fit in a 3rd row, but a clever "crossover" of roughly the same size can't?

But the Equinox isn't positioned against the Explorer or the Pathfinder. Chevy already has the TrailBlazer for that. The Equinox is a larger alternative for folks who would otherwise consider the RAV or CR-V, which also don't have third row seats. And since, IMO, in anything other than a full size SUV the third row is impossible to get to and a torture chamber once you're there, and you have to choose between people, or stuff, but can't take both. Why have a third row seat just to say you do? Equinox will take 4 people AND their stuff in comfort. Fine for most folks.

I dunno, the nox seems much smaller than the TB in person. Plus I would rather have 2 rear seats with tons of room that 2 cramped seats plus two unusable ones.

One thing you need to understand is

Redzed's wants, needs, and opinions do not equal everyone elses.

The Equinox right now is one of the better selling vehicles in it's segment...it will be fine.

Mine has more space than any s-10 blazer. Now if the memory mirrors would work.

Nice deal on that equinox.

Re: Wife Just Got an Equinox

I got an Equinox for my wife a while back. Its got about 2500 miles on it now, and we really like it. It is an LT awd with the 1se package(every option except towing). The ride is very quiet and smooth, although the steering at low speeds (like in parking lots) does take some getting used to. The only real complaint I have is that it doesnt come close to the 19/25 mpg rating. We get about 16mpg with about 40% highway/ 60% city driving. We havent had it out to run a full tank on just highway yet.

The 5 speed auto does do some funny shifting too. I need to get it to the dealer to see if they have an updated program for the pcm

I guess I have a reason to be happy about my Armada getting 16-18MPG. It just goes to show that fuel economy isn't always proportional to the size and power of a vehicle.

Your comments on the 5-speed automatic in the Equinox doesn't surprise me. Remember, Saturn recently replaced the 5-speed Aisin slushbox in the Ion sedan (and the CVT in the Ion coupe!) with an ancient GM 4-speed.

Re: Wife Just Got an Equinox

the tranny holds gears too long before shifting. I can just accelerate normally up to 55 and around 50 it will still be in 3rd then shifts to 4th and right away into 5th. It also hunts for gears alot when driving at varied speeds. The other day we put the A/C on for the first time and the shifting was horrible with the extra load on the engine. It held the gears even longer, and wouldnt go into 4th or 5th until I stopped accelerating and maintained a set speed for about 30 seconds.

We have not noticed any issues yet and gas milage seems great.

One thing to consider is if your trans is messed up, it can effect fuel economy too, so the two may be tied togethor.

I am hoping that getting the shifting right will increase the mpg. As it is now it keeps the rpms up too high, thus burning more gas
