But hasn't the sales drop been pretty sudden for old design to be a part of this??

I'd like to quickly point out that part of the gas price issue right now is that the Dollar is really weak. If the Dollar went up to where it was 3 yrs ago the price of oil in U.S. $ would go down probably under $40/barrel. Gas prices would come down some because of that but not a great deal simply because we are short of refinery capacity here.

One thing to keep in mind:

SUV's may or may not take a dump in the very near future because of fuel prices, but pickup trucks will still be dominant in the market. The idea that GM is pulling the trucks ahead is a good thing in many respects. In two years or less there are going to be a lot of folks ready to start working on cars again... with lots of RWD experience...

Maybe the stereotype that Japanese vehicles make a better compromise between performance and fuel economy is true - at least when it comes to big, huge V8 Nissans.
Glad to see you bought your 5,000+ SUV for drag racing too bad the "great" Armada is a sales Flop. Same goes for the gas pig Titan. Nissan keeps missing it's sales goals by good amounts. With gas prices climbing I don't expect a 2nd generation of either truck.

Oh I believe you 100% on this. Alot of people have a warped perspective of fuel prices. They'll gripe when fuel goes up 50 cents a gallon, but the added cost is less than a large Starbucks coffee and a Bagel per week. Also, the fact that no one issues a peep when oil companies and refineries line their pockets from massive increases, but are ready to take up arms over a few cents of tax increases.

GM management needs to take full responsibility for the falling sales of their large SUV sales. You can't just blame "gas prices" after you've milked these products for years without reinvesting the sky high profits.
It's still my opinion that alot of the sales drop is because of fuel prices. People are starting to get realistic about what their buying. I suspect a few more people are really asking do they need a big Tahoe or Trailblazer, and going for an Equinox instead.

I could not agree more with that statement. I'm not happy about high gas prices either but at most gas is up 25%, which means a guy buying $100 a month in gas before is now buying $125 in gas.

All these people griping don't have $25 somewhere else in their budgets they can trim? How about icewater instead of Coke at lunch? 2 less Double Latte's from Starbucks like you said, or whatever. We complain about 50 cents more per gallon but then people think nothing of dropping $500/month for a car payment or $2000 for a set of ported cyl heads.

People just love something to bitch about IMO. They'll keep paying it because we all have to. Yes if it hits $4 a gallon that's going to start to really hurt, and it will hurt low income workers first for whom gas is a much bigger % of their budgets. But some pain is necessary for market forces to push alternatives along.

If I'm not mistaken large pickup truck sales haven't been affected, only large SUVs.

I hate to break it to you, but Armada/Titan sales are actually accelerating. Despite stupendously low MSRPs, these vehicle lines are very profitable and you can expect to see the Titan reach into the 3/4 ton market sooner-or-later, just like the upcoming new Toyota Tundra.

Of course, if you want to talk about a "gas pig," we could always talk about the 5-cylinder Canyon/Colorado. Didn't Car & Driver get a horrifically lousy 17mph with a GMC Colorado?

I hate to disappoint you, but I don't see any way there could not be a second generation truck. They did build a new assembly plant just to make these things, you know. A transplant going under would be a great way to welcome the UAW into all the other transplant facilities. There is no way that is going to happen. I'm not sure they could afford to retool for car platforms only 5-8 years after the plant opened either.

Besides, Toyota has made generation after generation of the Tundra even though they never sell much more than 100K a year. They too are building a brand new dedicated truck plant. The new truck coming out of that plant will be either the 3rd of 4th generation.

I'll admit that I can see sales the Equinox "canibalizing" sales from the regular length Trailblazer, but keep in mind that the lack of the 3rd row seat will severely limit the sales potential of the Equinox/Torrent. To take it a step further, I really have to wonder if the architecture of the Theta platform is too inflexible to accomodate a 3rd row.

Let's accept that the Equinox is a great replacement for the very nasty Suzuki-built Tracker - and also for the (finally )outgoing S-10 Blazer - but that's the best I can say about it.

I get the horrible feeling that the Equinox/Torrent is going to get a horrible beating in the sales department from crossovers like the third generations of the CRV and RAV-4, not to mention the redesigned Hyundai Sante Fe.

1. I don't think that Theta has to accomodate a third row for the class it competes in. Not everyone needs 9 kids. Some are plenty happy with one or two.

2. The Equinox is SUPPOSED to be the replacement for the nasty (and it was nasty) Tracker and venerable S-10 Blazer so I don't really understand why that's the "best" you can say. Looks like mission accomplished to me.

3. Won't the lack of a third row seat in the third generations of the CRV and RAV-4 severely limit their sales potential?

Re: Wife Just Got an Equinox

Nah, I think the Titan appears to be a great light duty truck.

BTW, Cadillac EXT will do 0-60 in 8 flat too.. My Avalanche with the 5.3 is timed at mid 8's, which I believe..

I believe the 8L trucks and disiel trucks would actually do 0-60 in the 8's too. They've got massive amounts of tq, and a touch more hp, but weigh in at least 1000 lbs more... so it equals out.

I'd like to see the new GM trucks and SUV's.. I can definantly see them doing well in powertrain, if they do come with the new Ls2 based 6.0L V8's, and better 6 speeds.. However, I wonder what GM will do about the interiors..

I also wonder if these interiors and 6 speed auto's will bolt into the existing trucks too..

The Titan runs neck and neck with the 5.3 liter HYBRID Silverado (7.91 vs. 7.94 0-60 times) . If you want to race, why don't you try conclusions with an SS? The Titan and SS are within 100 lbs. of each other and the SS has 40 horsepower on the Titan.

Then again, if towing were your thing, we could always just option up a 2500HD with the Diesel and Allison and we'll take bets on which part of your "it's almost a truck" will get torn off first in a pulling contest... my guess is the rear axle assembly... but hey, just a shot in the dark there...

The Titan is a good effort. Nissan came very close to almost kinda sorta building a truck this time.

Pssst... 900 is coming... and it's going to be a dark day in Ford/Dodge/Nissan/Toyota land when they hit the streets. Let there be no doubts, it will trump anything on the road.

I didn't read all of the replys but I thought I'd add that a girl I know bought one brand new, and it has been in the dealership 9-10 times for all kinds of crap. Sounds like a POS.
