wierd epiphany

I am wondering...how many cars has Toyota cut from production in the last 10 years, vs. GM or Ford?

Their two sportier models, the Celica and Supra were both cut. Those are two I can think of off the top of my head...I'm sure there are more but I'd probably have to dig. I bet somebody else knows more...but I got the first response in! Now I'm going to bed.

The Toyota Paseo ... but I suppose you could argue that came back as the tC.

The bottom-end car has changed names a few times (Tercel, etc).

if you ever owned a paseo you would understand why they cut it.

They just cut the Echo (replaced by Yaris). They've also in the past discontinued their wagons - Camry and Corolla (though Matrix is kind of the Corolla wagon now), as well as the Cressida (essentially replaced by Avalon), the Previa (replaced by Sienna).

Oh yeah, I knew someone who bought one of these new ... complete stripper with no radio or clock ... and then got a job delivering pizzas. The car was trashed within a year or so. Totally disposable car.

The Solara is still around - it's actually facelifted for 2007:

Still ugly.

Celica was replaced by tC. MR2 and Supra were only ones really phazed out.

Looked a lot better before this facelift. I really liked the 2006 Solara, but not so much the 2007.

True, but I wouldn't bet too much on Solara being around too much longer.

Are they going to replace it with something else? Seriously. Toyota hasn't had a true performance coupe in years. Have they given up? With their quality and racing heritage one would think they could come up with something by now. (Maybe its time to bring the Soarer to the US.)

Re: wierd epiphany

the last good year for Toyota's lineup was 1993. They had the Celica AllTrac, MR2 Turbo, and Supra twin-turbo in the lineup. In '94, the AllTrac got cut. In '96, the MR2 died. and in '98, the Supra disappeared. The most recent MR2 was a joke compared to the Turbo model. and the Celicas continued on with weak 2.2L engines until '97, then they tried Honda's formula of small, no-torque, high-revving engines. Didn't work.

Pretty sad when you don't have any car worth talking about since '93.
