started my car, and a wierd noise came out of it. thought it was a truck or somthing, so i thought nothing of it. i kept on driving, and it happened again. so now im worried. my friend told me it might be the rear axle, but its doing when the car is stopped too. and then it happened again for a 4th time when i was driving, so i threw it in neutral and it still did it. this thing is really worrying me, so if anyone could gimmie any help, that would be great.

thats what i was thinking, but wouldent the car have to be moving for it to make noise? (car moving=wheels spinning=bearing moving?????)

I thought it was there when you were moving.

If you're automatic it could be a bad converter too.

Otherwise maybe a deflector in your muffler has come apart?

 

Too general. Need more info. Don't know if you have A4 or M6. Don't know if sound is coming from under hood, under the car, at the front, at the rear, or all of the above. If it happens while your car is sitting in park, or neutral, get out and try to pinpoint where it is coming from. Let us know.

 

sounds like its coming from under the car, towards the rear. i tried to pinpoint it but it was hard to find exactly wehre it was coming from. also, i got a strong smell of gas that, if it was their before, i never noticed it. but it was really really strong.

 

Again, A4 or M6? What year is it? Provide more info so someone can have some idea.

Check all your gas tank and EVAP hoses for the gas smell.

 

Make sure the hose going to the charcoal cannister behind the fuel door didn't come off!!

That would whistle and cause the gas smell.
