How much would this car cost? IF they actually made a 2+2 seater 4 door, I'd actually be interested in it. From what I remember when reading about this a while back, it was supposed to have a very nice suspension, and lots of power to the back wheels. It would be like the total package. Nice looking, fast car, that seats people in the backseat comfortably, and I could even keep if I decided to settle down and think about kids.

2. Incorrect, according to sources at GM.

3. I can't really see GM putting in the effort you're suggesting and making Camaro (or add name of your choice) low volume. Taking a CTS and completely changing the exterior and interior styling while retaining a complex and expensive powertrain does not qualify as affordable--affordable as in priced like a Mustang GT.
I was led to beleive that the Lansing plant was running at max production and no other lines would be added. Also per convertsations 2 weeks ago with someone pretty much in the know I was told that the platform for a new Camaro was still being ironed out and work had begun however not seriously. I was told the plan was to use a hybrid Sigma/V-car platform. Like using a V-car IRS on a Sigma unibody and stuff like this. It is my educated guess that the platform will require a new plant, or one retrofitted with new tooling. To think the Camaro will be a niche car is dumb... The current F-car was almost 10 years old and still sold 70,000 units. Why would GM not expect more froma new design? Keep in mind there is only one way too keep the cost on a new car down...sell alot of them to spred out the design expense.

Also keep in mind when GM says there is no active plan out there for a new "camaro", that may be true...but that doesn't mean it isnt hidden under another development program and name

Thumbs up Chevy SS

I must admit I like it alot so far, And I believe it was in Autoweek that I 1st seen the pics. My 1st thoughts were of the 70's Chevelle, however I do see the SSR in the front. This makes sense to me as the early ideas for SSR were to do an El Camino( car/truck) type of vehicle, and we all know where the Camino came from. After reading these posts, I do see some of the 98-up Camaro influence in the front end. I am eagerly awaiting the pics of the real car. When I was a kid I remember no one would be caught dead in a 4 door car. It is a much different world today, as I really like the 94-96 Impala SS. I really do not see this car being the next Camaro. I see it as a new Chevelle, let the Malibu be what it is , they sell well, I think. Even though I was not very happy that they used the name on such a car. It didn't bother me anywhere near as much as the so called novas, and that other 1 from pontiac did. Maybe its good I can't think of the name at this moment. I do like the idea of the 4 round tail lights on the next gen Camaros, and I would also like to see some 1st gen styling. I think it can be done tastefully without using the R-word you all seem to really dispise. I hope they build it. Let the flames begin, I know alot of you will probably disagree with me. OH WELL!

Lying

I think Mark R. is lying because he has to. Why let the competition know what they are up to. When I 1st saw my issue in the mailbox I really didn't expect there to be any new news in the article. No surprise there.

I sure hope this is the case!!

BTW GM better bring back the Camaro soon, especially after seeing the photo's of the 05 Mustang concept.

There is no reason whatsoever for him to lie when he could simply say nothing.

I can't name any instance where any car exec has resorted to lying on any car under development. It undermines their credibility in the press. If someone says nothing is going on, then as far as they know, and as far as actual company policy, I think it's safe to say the're being truthful.

Just though i'd add this. This i found on some auto news site. It's info on the upcoming chevy SS concept. The family sedan part kind of threw me off though. It'd make a good Monte Carlo SS.

The SS concept is meant to revive Chevrolet's Super Sport heritage. The rwd family sedan features a small-block V-8, as well as a high-performance suspension and brakes to match.

Still sounds more like a Chevelle than a Camaro. Even an Impala SS more than a Camaro.

....the intent of this concept is to emody all of the great things about the SS moniker that have made it a legend.

There is obviously, heavy design influence from all of our favorite SS's......I can't wait to see it in person!

That being said, I don't know yet if it is meant for production.....

Maybe it'll just be a show car?! If it is what you think it is and it went in production, wouldn't there be a new name for it??
