Re: Where did red planet go???

well strike one is they killed the Camaro with the knowlege of a new Mustang comming out and it doing it as good...and nothing is being said about it...

strike two was when the Chevy coupe is comming out but it might not be on this platform or that platform, it might be bigger and so on and so on...and anyone saying the word Camaro. gets fired..or something to that effect...GM has to call it Camaro why cus its got Mustang to compete with....

Third Strike will be if and when this coupe comes out who knows what " near future" means?? 3-5-7 years??? and its not called Camaro?? you will see a mass exodust from GM loyalty...a car that looks like a camaro, runs like a camaro.and not named Camaro...?????? that would be absurd...

Re: Where did red planet go???

better late than ever.. but...

It's hard to cheer for a company that turned it's back on you and your car... after a 35year relationship.....

Not to mention how it seemed other than "SLP"... GM really had no support system to keep the F-body going... other than a GM parts catalog with some off the shelf OEM parts.... ever see a Ford Racing catalogue...??? Like it's designed around the mustang... why could GM had followed that act?

Anyhow seeing the new Z06 put some excitment back into Peopel that are on the bow tie... even thoug hat first we wanted to stand behind the GTO... but it was lacking something must of us wanted in a leader... but it seems the Z06 is delivering what we want...so in the mean time what's wrong with being excited and happy about the new comer? Why would GM be "upset" about that...

With Fords knockout GT's and Dodge Returning to the game Where is GM?

We need a champion... so why not the Z06???

Why not the Z06? Because I can't afford a Z06, or a GT, or a Viper. I don't need a champion.

Eh, at this point any news is good news to me. I would still like to see the senario of the first car you are referring to be named Chevelle. Waiting another year for the Camaro (although I would like to see it in time for its 40th ann.) based on the Torranos platform, built along with the Solstice as many have discussed. Maybe I read too far into your post, but maybe I didn't. Sometimes I feel like we are all playing Jeopardy here (Who is? What is? ect.). Guy, we'll just call you Alex

Re: Where did red planet go???

let me make some points
right now the big/heavy car is the craze.
we know dcx is bringing out something but we don't know what. possibly calling it a challenger from the powerpoints i've seen. the challenger is good cause it was originally a bigger bodied car but very sporty and muscular. dcx can play both markets this way. they will steal from the GTO and possibly cts-v without being a 4-door, while also taking some from the mustang, while pushing a mopar theme. i don't know if GM knows this (i'd hope they watch as well as we do) but i am guessing that's why the newer f-body will be bigger(to compete with a possible challenger while still playing the new fad/market). if it is bigger the handling probably won't be that much better than the 4th gens, but it would give them room to up the power for 1/4 times.

edit: also, holden has a Y-series, Guion, do you think that could be a hint a a chevy y-body?
Guionm, also, what are the odds of this car getting a ls2 with a few ls7 internals? like the rods, pistons. i'd be good for 450hp (i'm basing this on the holden GTSR concept)

Re: Where did red planet go???

Guion, is the size really the problem or is it more like it isn't a lower cowl sporty car? As long as the car isn't more than 190" I don't see a probem in these times, but I do see a problem if it's set up like a GTO or a sedan-like car. If it was near the size of an IROC-Z (192") I bet they could get some great interior space in it with a longer wheelbase.

This is an easy one. They need to take a long hard look at this car. Does it scream Camaro? If it dosen't, than it shouldn't be named Camaro!

I have a real problem with this situation. A new Camaro needs to have been intended to be a Camaro from its inseption. They should be striving to make the best Camaro ever and improve upon the weaknesses of previous generations. They need to understand the market, who the customers are, and what they want. They then need to develope those wants into the car they are designing. You can't just make a generic rwd coupe and then slap the name Camaro on it at the last minute. This half-assed approach to the Camaro is one of the biggest reasons we have a hiatis in the first place. GM needs to learn to take the Camaro seriously. If they hadn't treated it like the Corvette's unwanted, redheaded step child for all these years, they might have had a car that actually approached the success of the Mustang.

If they can't do it right, they shouldn't bother doing it at all.

I really thought GM was starting to make real progress. This whole situation implies that they haven't learned a damn thing.

Bigger than Mustang? Totaly unaccetable for a new Camaro
Heavier than Mustang? Totaly unaccetable for a new Camaro

Freaking wake up GM!

I'm not of that opinion. I'd have no issue if the new Camaro was as heavy as the 05 GTO, as long as it had 400 hp like the GTO as well. Displacement, torque and HP are the great weight equalizer. And it would be even more acceptable, if there were some extra functionality to go with that weight like a hatch/gate as is found on the Holden Torano (sp?)

I really thought GM was starting to make real progress. This whole situation implies that they haven't learned a damn thing.
I disagree here too. GM HAS made a lot of progress, specifically in quality, design sharing and cost. It will pay off big when the next Camaro comes out. And who cares, really, if its off a shared platform, as long it makes buyers happy and meets their specs?

Re: Where did red planet go???

When he is ready to post his reasons, he will.

I will say that it was his decision and his alone. This decision was based upon someone doing something that is clearly known to be wrong and those who defended them in the form of immature and aggressive comments without good or justifiable reason. This defense was directed at Scott and GM as a whole, and were not done in a very professional, friendly or even mature manner.

The combination of this made him feel as though he didn't need that kind of aggrivation in exchange for him going out of his way to help, educate and inform. That is a very poor way to thank someone for taking a risk to be generous and part of this community. I can honestly say that I do not blame him and I know exactly how he felt. It is not pleasant.

In other words, there are some who specifically caused this to happen. More damage will be done if they and others continue to act without thinking or taking into consideration the ill effect their actions will cause. It doesn't help anyone, including themselves.

It is unknown when and if he will come back. Time will tell.

So again, when he is ready to post his reasons, he will. Until then, please let it rest out of respect for him and honestly, the rest of us who can benefit a great deal from his particiation.
