Re: Where did red planet go???

From what I gather it wasnt so much the posting of the Z06's pictures. It was the additude people had here. People were shouting about legal action and the like when they didnt know all the facts. Nobody was listening to RP and kept blabbering on about stuff they knew nothing about. There is a lot of legal BS that must be dealt with in Marketing. Some schmuck decided he wanted to be a thorn in GM's side and intentionally posted pics before they were ever supposed to hit public. He did it with cruel intent - and thusly he commited a few crimes - but people here defended him and his actions. Sadly a lot of people here were ignorant children complaining about something they knew nothing about.

Deal with a bunch of sobbing kids and risk his job (that took him his whole life to get) or keep his job and let the kids stew, perhaps learning from their mistakes?

I also gather he left of his own choice (though it is a smart one for him to make). Keep the faith? I will. Why? If a guy works for his whole life to get a job, then risks it to tell people on a car forum on the internet anything he can get away with - dont you think he both knows something big, and cares for the car more then most of us? As was said - he's the guy I want there. I have faith... and by the time I want a new car, I know I'll be behind the wheel of a bowtie. It'll be a Vette or a Camaro, either way I know what I want and the mustang cant deliver.

Re: Where did red planet go???

He probably got sick of the people acting like GM owed them something, and b/c he worked there he owed them something too. GM in no way owes it to any of us to ever put out another affordable sports car. People whine too damn much. I am just as dissapointed about it as anyone else, but a lot of you guys just keep persisting that its a travesty and GM is being stupid. Its not your decision to make. They made it, they will either fix it or not. Get over it. He left b/c he wanted to keep a job that he loves. Being here jepordized that position. We all want him here and wish he would come back, but for what? To put up w/ a bunch of guys whining and crying that they have been wronged, and pressure him to give up information he either has or doesn't have, and even if he had it he can't give it out. It has to be super frustrating to keep telling people to keep up the faith, keep up the hopes, and GM will come through, only to have the people he keeps telling him about once a month question him.

Red, salute you for all you do day in and day out, and all you have done over the past years for the group of guys who love these cars so much. Met and talked to you on several occasions around the southeast, and enjoyed talking w/ you every time. Even had the pleasure of having you stop by my local clubs "little corner of the net" and hang for a little while whenever you get a chance...

RP...

You're right. GM owes us nothing. I agree with that statement 100%. But, we also don't owe them anything. Hence, we are switching to other brands. I'm not going to stay loyal to GM just because they are GM and I have "faith" that some day they may make another product I want. I'm going to go buy another brand of car that I do want. If and when GM starts making something I want again, I'll come back. I don't hold any grudges. Just don't expect me to wait. It's certainly not an F-body only thing for me either. It's their whole car lineup. Nothing interests me.

I'm 33 years old and have owned 18 cars. 4 of those have been new cars. Of the 14 used cars, 9 were GM products. Of the 4 new cars, 3 of them were GM products, all of which were ordered and not bought off the lot. The 1 other new car was a Ford product I bought back when I briefly worked for them. I'd say I was pretty loyal to GM. My wife and I both make decent salaries and will be buying a new car every two years atleast. I feel abandoned by GM. That's bad for them because I'm in a prime target demographic. It's not a complaint, just a statement of fact. I'm not complaining because there are plenty of other choices out there for me. It's really that simple.

Re: Where did red planet go???

It was said well above. GM doesn't owe me a performance car? Then I don't owe them any damned "faith" or business. Every time I hear something new from GM I'm glad that I stopped giving them money. There's someone inside the company who wants to let the fans know about the car, but is being kept down by the man and can't talk to us. What? This isn't the French Resistance! This is a business, and we're the customer? Can't tell us? That's great, then I can't buy any cars from you, or "have faith" that you'll put out a good product, just because our "guy inside" tells us to. And then throws a fit when people get frustrated at how retarded the situation is.

Re: Where did red planet go???

Nicely said. It's really messed up when the public understands more about what people want than the company does.

On a side note......almost all of us have either had it out with RP at one time or another over our frustrations or have also been happy just reading a post from him and his little hints here and there, but I hope he comes back when he can. It was good hearing from him time to time and when it's OK to actually talk about a certain car again, lets hope there's some really good stuff to be read.

Why did GM get so upset over the Z06 situation, but not as much when the C6 picture was leaked around the holidays last year? I'd think that seeing the redesigned C6 would have been much worse than seeing a hood scoop, some side vents and fender flares.

They have a no tolerance policy of leaking information on vehicles still in the works. If you're caught, they'll fire you

Re: Where did red planet go???

Red's position is that of "GM". You'll find out info when GM is ready to give it to you. If you don't get it from GM, then you shouldn't have it.

Unlike "GM", though, I think he's aware that in some instances, advanced word is invaluable in getting feedback & creating buzz. He also likes to monitor various websites to get the pulse of what we think and our reactions to various vehicles of intrest.

Red is very well known by others at GM for coming to sites like this. As an upper level manager, he's in a position where posting the wrong thing or not taking the right stand, though may not get him fired, will cause a whole lot of grief at work, and could jepordize his being chosen for other assignments.

Knowing what little I do about him from our meetings, he most certainly cares about the Camaro name, and the people who support Camaro's history (including this website). But there are positions he has to take, regardless as to if there is logic seemingly behind it or not.

He'll decide when it's time to post again.

You can read into all this what you want.

So then in this case, the Z06 was not considered complete, but the C6 was? I dont remember any legal fall out for the guy who posted the C6 picture on digital Corvettes like what happened to the guy who posted the Z06 picture.

The big deal wasn't the Z06 itself.

Re: Where did red planet go???

I understand that, I guess Im not wording my question right.

The C6 and Z06 pictures were posted (I believe) under the same situation. They were both Copyrighted by GM and displayed to the public before they were allowed to be posted. Why was there such fall out from the Z06 pictures, but not the C6 pictures? Basically, why didnt all this happen a year ago when the same event should have triggered it?

My guess is that GM is getting more and fustrated with pictures being leaked, and they're cracking down on it harder as each incident passes.
