What is the "mullet" antedote.
Maybe it's just around here, but I don't hear the 'mullet' thing around much. Infact I can't remember the last time I heard it, maybe it's because LT-1 and LS-1 camaros are becoming much more common and are whooping the **** out of mostly everything. I think the "rice boy" term is used much more often as a slander than "mullet head".
Geeze..No matter how much the Camaro's quality/styling is improved there are still going to be those same people calling names.I didn't buy my Camaro for the image booster it supposedly will give,I bought it because I like it.
The antidote:
1. Really, really great-looking car. Really. No, I mean really. Inside and out. Not flash-in-the-pan current-craze crap, either, but something enduring\
2. A car that fits like a Camry.
3. And performs like (at least) a C5, for less than BASE 350Z money.
4. And includes at least one of the buzzwords that the press can focus on and the general public needs to open up their wallets (think IRS).
5. Really small, discreet badges.
Make people ask what it is:
"What is that?"
"It's the new Camaro."
"What? I thought those were for hicks!"
"Where have you been?"
In short, it has to set the new standard. It needs to make everyone who refers to the Camaro as a mulletmobile look like a retard. It will take time, but it can work . . . it will work . . . but it has to be a no-excuses car.

When I drive my 67 RS... thumbs up, finger pointing and stares all around.
When I drive my 95 Z/28... no one even looks my way. Occasionally a person will ask me about the car, and they're typically amazed that a 1995 car looks this good. Then it ends up that they're car people and have a muscle car of their own.
When I drive either of my kid's Mustangs... people give me dirty looks, or want to race me.

However, I think the reactions to my 95 Z/28 say a lot. Only car people and especially those into American muscle cars seem to notice it and have positive things to say about it. Since those are the types of people I'd rather associate with, I can give a rat'sass what some pencil-necked-geek corporate a-hole thinks.
That includes my wife, who hates my cars, and just doesn't understand.

My wife thinks the same way. But when it's time to go somewhere she always want's to ride in my car.
For those of you that don't hear the "mullet stigma," pick up any car rag and see how the writers describe f-bodies. I know, they are MOSTLY clueless boneheads, but they do affect the buying public. So I say it once again, if GM wants to compete sales-wise with the mustang they need to fix the image of the f-body. I don't know how exactly, but I studied engineering instead of marketing in college.

That isn't why you or me bought Camaros. Most people buy a car because they want to be seen in it. I want everyone to want to be seen in the next gen Camaro.

I totally agree.
But I can't see it happening for less than 27K.
I totally agree.
Plus, am I dreaming or did the base price of the 350Z COME DOWN in 2004? Seems that way from Yahoo Autos. It still is not my favorite car, but this is something we can't ignore.

Exactly. Price it like that and follow PacerX's formula and say goodbye to the hick/mullet man rebel flag in our windows, living in a trailer plague we are left with after the 3rd gen era...

Really, does anyone honestly believe these type of people (assuming you believe this stereotype to begin with
) actually walked into a new car showroom in the 1980s, and bought one of the more expensive sports cars of the day (even Camaro RSs typically ran as much as a Mustang GT!).The 4th gen could easily have that exact same reputation after the 5th gen comes out in a few years, so let's not get too high on ourselves.
Z284ever understands it. If it comes out in 2007, 4 years from now, who's going to be the target audience (or at least should be a good part of it)? The people who are calling it a mulletmobile right now. Those people exist, we'd all like to over look them but their money is just as green as ours, and that's really the bottom line.
You have to spread the word that the Camaro is cool and not for mullet-heads.
The masses in this nation are fairly gullible, and will believe anything their TV tells them. You have to have a decent ad campaign. They can't be lame commercials either... they need to be cool like the "Break Through" campaign. If you have a bunch of commercials telling people what a Camaro is really like, eventually they'll believe it.
