I see, but besides looks, its going to be useless when your actually driving..

LCD's have this ghosting effect, because they can't 100% turn pixels on and off fast enough.. If anyone has ever played a vid game on an older lap top screen, they know what I'm talking about.. the new ones are getting better.

But lets say you can get 60 hz of perfect refresh.. When your really driving with spirit, you are usually in the process of acceling and decelling down constantly. Your RPM's will be measured with a 4 digit number.. like 3450. The first two least sig digits will be a unreadable blur, because they will be changing so fast. you mgiht be able sorta make out the hundreds column, perhaps in slow accel or in high gears, but if you think about it, at least for the first 3 gears, that number iwll be changing probably fast enough to blur thru ur eyes... which leaves you basically with a the final thousands digit.. then on top of that, you have to read the number in a glance. This is why there is some delay in refresh's of numbers.. else they just blur by. 10 times a second, may still be pushing it..

I do agree, being able to "skin" your dash would be pretty neat though. But in a perfmance car, I'd have to sit down see that its just as easy or easier to read in different lighting conditions and such.. I'd bet its physically easier for the human eye to read paint than glowing lcd's though.
look at the pic I posted. There are analog style gauges on that dash. Like I said, the digital readout is an added BONUS to digitalizing everything.

My Idea still has normal gauges

Heated seats would be nice, as well as monochromatic rearview mirror w/compass&temp. That's pretty much it...

No DVD's, HUD's etc. etc.

TS
1. I woundt mind the HUD or DVD being optional, because I might get the HUD (but not the DVD...unless it had GPS, too) Also, they should make the tach on the HUD adjustable so when you swap in a cam, it will show all the way to redline. For instance, my tach quits at 7K I think. If I had an agressive cam I might want the tach to go to 8500 and redline at 7400. Would be cool

2. I would also like the temp. and compass in the rear view mirror, I am in the process of swapping one into my '99 Z28 since I liked it so much on my '01 Sierra.

3. Plus a good place to put a gauge or two, and still look factory without having to sacrifice something else( '98+ Firebird/Trans Ams had a great place for the gauges - the A/c vents, but then no A/C! Something like that but without hacking anything...)

4. Also, I would like nice interior options...like in the Cobalt SS...those seats would be perfect(black leather with red intsert & "SS" stitched into the headrest in silver), I cant wait to try them out. Put leather on the door panels and make it look nice. Use padded dashes that feel mushy and soft but last longer and are more durable than the old plasticy ones. I want to feel like Im wrapped in a cozy leather glove and it fits perfect. Soft steering wheel(I put a Grant Signature Series on my '84 Z28 and it was sooo soft and comfortable) Also, the shift **** should feel soft and cozy as well. Think BMW or Mercedes. Dont skimp on the interior, its what we will be staring at 90% of the time we drive it(OK we're watching the road 90% of the time but we also have to see the interior constantly)

5. Silver trim on the interior, done tastefully of course, just a little bit, dont overdo it.

6. Driver information center with fuel in gallons, MPG, estimated distance til empty, fluid level notification, etc. and surprise me with something new in there! I dont know what, but theres got to be something cool they could get the info center to do. Like the ability to add your own inputs, for instance if you have a turbo, you could add the functionality to display boost in psi or kpa or bar whatever.....Plus datalogging would be cool but I doubt that would ever make it to production. Maybe for the Corvette. Although, I saw at Autozone a little datalogger(ODB II) for $130...record 300 hours of data! So maybe parts are cheap enough for it now...

7. BETTER SHIFTER/CLUTCH FEEL! I dont mind the tranny shaking as it cant be helped, but for goodness' sake put a decent shifter in them!

8. Everyone go listen to the factory alarm on the Subaru WRX STi. I would like that on the 5th gen. Its not so much a beep....its more like the sound a digital timer on a microwave makes when it goes off....or like the sound you hear when you hit your head and you ears ring for a while....sounds sweet, and a nice change from the old "beep beep"

9. Better aerodynamics!!! Not for looks...for speed. Well looks too

10. Optional ghost flames would be nice and I would be willing to pay the extra cost if its like $2500-$3000 or something like that. Silver with silver ghost flames

Thats about all I can think of but its the honest truth. Most of that stuff besides the interior stuff wouldnt ever make it but its OK to try

AS far as I'm concerned, if they get the basics right ( good engine, good tranny's, good suspension, good brakes, good steering, good body, good interior) then they can just make ALL of the high tech stuff options. That way I get a good sport coupe on the cheap if I have to. While Mr. Jones ( who absolutely CAN'T LIVE without all this stuff) can price his into the stratosphere by loading it up with ALL of the latest James Bond gadgets.

The only 'gadgets' I'd care to have would be HID lights and XM radio. They're hardly gadgets anymore to the collective auto marketplace, but to us Fbody guys...

I could also see heated seats being realistically offered, but personally, living in Tejas, I can't see the point.
