What does the 5th gen need for you to buy it?
What does the 5th gen need for you to buy it?
What options or features does the 5th gen need in order for you to run out and buy one right away.
For me:
LS2
RWD
T-tops or Targa
17" wheels
6 speed
69 camaro-esque exterior or a look that doesn't resemble any other GM product. (no cookie cutter design).
EDIT: Price under $40G.

Besides the givens ... RWD, V8, 6-speed, 4 wheel ABS disc, positrac, good handling/braking.
Trunk, mpg 20 city - 30 hwy, '05 GTO seats, easier access to back seats (for kids seats), tuned for lower octane fuel, displacement on demand, easy to perform routine maintenance, wheel/tire options.
Basically, a car that approaches the economy of a "conservative" car, but the ability to open it up as well at a track day ... DOD, alternative computer settings for higher octane fuel.

Retro styling is a silly fad...soon to be dead.
Re: What does the 5th gen need for you to buy it?
1) T-tops
2) A progressive, NEW design. Heritage cues are fine and dandy, but retro = ripoff. BAD. I want something I haven't seen before. Heritage cues such as the 3rd gen front end on the '93-'97s, and the '81 tailights on the '82-'92s are great.
But make it look like a '69 Camaro and I will scream my head off that I waited 6 years for the return of an LS-powered retro brick

Re: What does the 5th gen need for you to buy it?
Seeing that most of the reports are showing the new Challenger to be a bit retro, i would like to see no retro with the Camaro. It would allow for a seperation from the croud (Mustangs and soon to be Challengers). I also think that having some type of harness option instead of the regular seat belt, would be kind of cool.
Re: What does the 5th gen need for you to buy it?
1. A completely modern and stunning design that looks like nothing else on the road. The car also needs to be a lot shorter and a little narrower than the 4th gen.
2. As much or more V8 power when compared to the LS1. I don't care if its an LS2, 5.3l V8 truck motor, LS7(yeah right) or LS29847389291(that's probably what number they'll be at when we finally get a Camaro). Also needs a slick shifting 6 speed.
3. Great handling with some sticky 17" tires(275/40/R17s).
4. A comfortable driver's seat. A GTO chair would be be a worthy throne. Of course there has to be a back seat, but if its as big as the 4th gen, then I'm fine.
5. A well thought out and executed interior. I don't want lots of gadgets, but it better have high quality plastics and a stylish design. I think a two tone color combo that matches the exterior color would be cool(ala GTO). And please use a quality material on the cloth seats(something all manufactors cheap out on so you'll buy leather
)
6. A decent size trunk.
7. I don't care about t-tops or targa top, but please give us a convertible version(I would buy the vert if the car wasn't a daily driver).
8. A curb weight under 3500lbs for the coupe and under 3700lbs for the vert.

Re: What does the 5th gen need for you to buy it?
1) they ACTUALLY need to make it !
2) 6 speed manual, (though they should have the 5 speed auto available)
3) It needs to look like a Camaro, long hood, short rear deck.
4) needs a SS option with a 6.0 liter or larger 400+ horsepower motor.
I am reasonably sure that GM will take care of a decent interior, and the comfort options will most likely be there.
I still hope for a 3rd/4th gen type of heritage nod, but I have pretty much come to believe it will be far more 1st gen inspired. Oh well, as long as it looks good (for the record, I really do like the new 'Stangs), and goes like hell in the top versions, I will buy it.
PS-Any artists able to do a new camaro drawing using the 91-92 Z28 as a basis (with the spoiler/hood scoop of the ls1 ss's)? If you can I would love to see it, I have 0 talent for drawing.

Re: What does the 5th gen need for you to buy it?
You know, there is no single thing that if left off would be a deal breaker for me, its a total package.
How many of you guys saying t-tops would absolutely refuse to buy one if they don't come with Ts?

I did not mentionprice, I believe that GM will price it competitively with the Mustang. As long as the SS (or Z/28, whichever is the top performance model) is in the 30-35K range I will be fine with it.
If GM brought out the GTO to gauge public reaction to a RWD V-8 performance coupe, maybe it was to gauge price point as much as to gauge package interest?
