Ummmm.....about weight....
Re: Ummmm.....about weight....
My current mustang is about 3250 or so. I think that's a good weight (and a good size). My interest wanes with each additional pound and size increase until you reach 2005 Mustang size and 3500lb+. Past that point, I'll have no interest left whatsoever.
Re: Ummmm.....about weight....
We agree there is clear definition between "want", "like" and "accept", right?
I WANT the 5th-gen to weigh-in lighter than any previous F-body. I don't know exact weights throughout the years, but let's just say ~3200-3300 lbs would be a nice weight for the 5th-gen!
(c'mon, the light-weight materials exist to do these things
)
I'd LIKE for it to be at least no heavier than my current 4th-gen (~3400-3500 lbs)
.
I'll ACCEPT it being no more than ~3600 lbs. I realize that it will undoubtedly get IRS, so I guess it's being realistic to say that the weight should be "approximately" the same as the 4th-gen model, but with an additional few pounds (~150 lbs or so?
) on the car because of the IRS?
Any more than that and it seems TOTALLY UNNECESSARY to me!
What is the essence of a "pony car" anyway? It's the biggest, most powerful motor the company has to offer, stuffed into one of the smallest, light weight cars they build!
I realize the LSx engine won't quite fit into a Cobalt, but there's no need to get carried away and have this beast weighing in at ~2 tons!!!?!!!?

Re: Ummmm.....about weight....
I agree with everyone, I would LIKE my Camaro to weigh around 3400 or so, but I HIGHLY doubt it will be anywhere near that. Government crash standards and safety equipment have a way of adding up and making the car weigh a whole lot more than it would have a few years ago. Anyways, I voted that 3800 would be the most id accept, im hoping that it comes in closer to 3600 though and 3400 would be ideal.

. I get to handle it on a (almost) daily basis
. And yes, we could even get a nice blue glow from some spent uranium under our cars!I was sorta pulling that ~150 out of my a$$. But I mean, if you take away all of our live axle related parts (axle housing w/axles, LCA's, PHR, torque arm) and add in the components of an IRS (half shafts, lower control arms? sway arms? whatever in hell parts go in there?!
) what is the actual weight difference, really??
I guess I should look up the weight of an '03/'04 Mustang GT & Cobra and compare
. I can't think it would be much more than ~200 lbs difference?

The '03/'04 Cobra is a bad example because it's reverse engineered IRS is artificially heavy, but I think it adds abit over 100 lbs.
I've been told that for our car, a properly designed IRS will add 25-50 lbs over a well located live axle.
Re: Ummmm.....about weight....
OK then
. So if that's the case, then I want to change my vote to 3500 lbs instead of 3600 lbs!!!
I honestly didn't know what kind of weight difference to expect between live axle / IRS

Re: Ummmm.....about weight....
I've just been kinda expecting it to be around 3600 lbs, a little heavier than the 4thgens, so I voted for 3700 as anything over that will come as quite a shock to me.
I'm not sure I'd refuse to buy the car or anything at over 3700 pounds, (it would for sure have to have a 400+ hp setup though) but it would definitely be pretty disappointing.
It will be quite the awesome move if they can really get it in under 3500 lbs, I'm hoping for that but not really expecting it. With the new Shelby GT500/Cobra being pretty heavy from what I've heard, a under 3500 lb 400ish hp Camaro should still be fairly competitive, until the GT500 gets modded...
