The '82 and '83, (just like the '80 and '81), Z/28 hoods, had functional air induction "flappers", which were sealed directly to the TB's. At full throttle, they sucked in a cold outside air charge directly into the engine. They increased horsepower, (up 10-15 on the '80/'81...I believe less on the '82/'83).....of course, being so functional, also created a water/ice ingestion issue.

If a hoodscoop doesn't provide a measurable increase in horsepower....but only provides a small amount of cooler air into the engine compartment....then as far as I'm concerned...they are ornamental hoodvents.

Which is why one of the big selling points of coated headers is that it decreases underhood temperatures.

And very important for the GTO's which seem to suffer from heat soak .

6 speed is available with the 05 GTO. Pontiac needs some web cleanup work done to their site.
