If a hoodscoop doesn't provide a measurable increase in horsepower....but only provides a small amount of cooler air into the engine compartment....then as far as I'm concerned...they are ornamental hoodvents.

At full throttle, they sucked in a cold outside air charge directly into the engine. They increased horsepower, (up 10-15 on the '80/'81...I believe less on the '82/'83).....of course, being so functional, also created a water/ice ingestion issue.
