Aren't we starting to reach the point where there is some new technology or law where all at once the performance world is knocked backwards 25-30 years by the government? We've finally caught up to the 60's/early 70's...

Who's ready for the next line of sub 200HP 5.7L engines?

But hey... look on the bright side... in 25 more years we'll all be talking about those gas guzzling LS1's that could only manage 28-29 MPG on the highway...

It's amazing to think that one day we might go look for our new 7th gen F-Body and find a 300+ HP engine with 60 MPG.

Even Mustangs, the closest thing left to our cars, are torn down and labeled as lame cars. Maybe I just get tired of the "everything else sucks" mentality.

I hardly labeled people who do not approve of this style as being mullet wearers, but that those who lack the intelligence to assemble an objective, post-adolescent thought are doing nothing but playing into the stereotype others hold of the F-car enthusiast. Truth be told, the Evo is probably not the styling statement I want and I prefer the looks of the Subarus. My own car is quite humble in comparison.

While opinions are everyone's freedom, offensive, derogatory, and racially-insensitive remarks have no place in any community--and that should be true regardless of how fast your car is. It's unfortunate that some seem to believe "King of the Road" status provides grounds to be a social invalid. Then again, that might be too much for some as I suspect the "enough of the PC crap!" flag to be waved.
I only have a problem with the whole street-racer scene. Don't get me wrong... I don't hate imports in general. My brother has an '02 WRX and its an impressive little car. Shoot I even drove a Nissan 240SX before my current Z/28. My problem is with idiots who throw a wing, coffee can exhaust, stickers and carbon fiber on a slow POS and all of a sudden they can smoke me because I have a stock Z/28. WTF does a street car need with carbon fiber anyway? The only reason the whole scene is blowing up is because these cars are cheap and easier to insure for younger drivers. Watch an episode of HiRev Tuners on Speed Channel and you'll notice its 90% show and the majority of the car owners have most of their stuff built by others. My question to them is this.... yeah your insurance is half of what I pay, but how much $$$$ do you have in that thing and its still slow?

This isn't direct at you Jerry. Like I said, I understand the WRX. I just don't understand "rice".

magazine numbers and all that crap are just that crap
thAT CAR WILL NOT EAT A lS1 EVEN CLOSE
even when they compar ea mustang to a camaro they dont lie about the numbers but change them around abit
if the camaro woops a mustang in there testing they take the slower run of the camaro to make it seem close, still better but closer
we all now that a 2002 Ls1 will woop a 2002 mustang
MT has the Ls1 camaro rated at 5.1 0-60 that is bull and so is a 13.8 1/4 mile i have seen 13.5 from a far from pro driver stock and i other mags have seen times faster then that
why would ford give Mt or R&T a car to compare to a camro if they new it would get wooped they lie about then numbers i dont beleive any of them
also 13.8 and 5even for 0-60 in a car with 271 Hp that probably wieghs 26-2700 lbs does not impress me that much

Well, magazines tend to have different methods for testing acceleration. Some of them use one technique to test all cars as opposed to altering their method of launch to achieve the best times. This makes it a little difficult to make a comparison.

If you go to the f-body FAQ and check the magazine times you'll find that the spread for 0-60 of a particular model f-body from the same year with the same transmission has a spread of about 1 sec.

That said you can make one assumption from those tested times and that's that the car is at least as fast as the times given.

Don't feel bad. In the 70's it was tape stripes, fake side pipes, and jacked up rear ends on everything from 307 Chevelles to Ford Pintos.

I guess that's why I still love pre 1973 musclecars best.

My next car is going to be a Camaro... only its going to be a '67 or '68.

Add enough boost and anything is pretty fast.....so what's new? WWII P-38 Lightnings and B-17s were turbocharged. Just drop a S/C on your LS1 and off you go...

Actually the P-38 was supercharged and the B-17 was normally aspirated.
