Mr Chadwick, I think your arguements are valid. However I should ask what does a stock EVO 8 or WRX or the DSM's 60ft?

My car is able to 60ft at decent tracks 2.0 or better, 1.9's at good tracks. Not too bad for stock tires.

In the runs I've had on the street or track against DSM's or WRX's yea they get me by a bit out of the hole. But its not like I'm getting walked by 5 carlenghts. My car launches fairly well and you know right away if your going to reel the import in or not because by the 4000 rpm mark is hit in first gear your either pulling or not. By the top of second you've either lost or walking them. My car runs 12's on the street or track I have nothing to prove its a loaded slushbox Z28 with no weight removed and under $200 in mods, mostly used. I don't cry if I loose and don't boast when I win.

Lots of street races also go from a roll and there the advantage of AWD is nill. Unless your car is so powerful that you fry the tires on a 40 roll.
I also get into lots of races where I leave slow then they speed up then I do then they do and before you know it we're both floored and goin at it. Again easy on the rwd cars.

Why is everyone comparing et.'s? This car is in no way meant to be a drag car. Its an all around sports sedan. It accelerates, turns and brakes as a complete package. It also does it much better than the competition minus the Subaru STI which we havent seen official US numbers for yet.

Yeah, I have had at least twice as many races from a roll than from a stand still. If you get any of these awd cars from a roll, they are screwed since they rely so much on launches(provided it is not an awd car that is dramatically faster). You can just avoid that but then it's kinda like how ricers never want to race "a V8" from a stop because of the torque disadvantage, always off the role. I personally like to race from a stand still because that is the most fair but I also never stop before 100 mph unless I am mauling the other car that bad. No one respects a person who just gets a good launch and then stops because they are ahead at that moment. My point is, pretty much all races are won because of top end and the car that has better mph will win. This is especially tue when comparing the Evo vs an LS1 Camaro.

I don't care if it does 0-60 in 3 seconds and costs $500!!!! IT is a friggin ricer!!! It looks like a bitch car and it will only be driven by men with small :-->'s!!!!!!! It doesn't look good, its small and cramped, and it sounds like a frigign turbo charged lawnmower. Man, that sure is cool. What an awesome car. I bet I will be tough if I drove one. GImme a break.

As 96Z28man said in harsher terms, everybody seems to think that a quarter-mile time is the only way to see if a car is superior to another.

Who cares that some ricer car can do 13.8? I could stuff a high po motor into a little pink Dodge Neon and make it faster than my SS. Would I look cool doing it? No. I can make my little Neon go into the 12's, but I'd still look like a goof.

Since when did the preferred performance platform become a 4-door commuter econobox?

isnt all this talk about "well mine looks better so it doesnt matter if he is faster" kinda a ricer mentality? maybe its ugly... but it sure as hell doesnt excuse the fact your slower.i understand its not all speed that people want and would rather have a nice looking car. but dont use the way your car looks as a defence to a performance oriented subject....just my opinion........later

I don't know, but it must have been when Hell froze over a few years back.

I personally couldn't care less what kind of ugly danged econo-box they stuff a motor into and call it "performance".....you'll never see me driving one!

Mitsubishi Lancer or Subaru WRX my @$$!
You sir are Correct! You still have to look at the damn thing.

I'd be more concerned about this one, myself:
http://impreza.subaru.com/microsites...sti/wrxsti.jsp
http://www.subaru.net/usproduct/2004/Stiinitspec.asp

MECHANICAL
300-horsepower @ 6,000 rpm, 300 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4,000 rpm
2.5-liter intercooled and turbocharged 4-cylinder boxer engine with Active Valve Control System (AVCS)
Full-time All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD)
Mechanical limited-slip rear differential
Suretrac viscous limited slip front differential
4-wheel fully independent sport-tuned suspension with inverted struts
6-speed manual transmission with short-throw shifter
Also, I just hung my head in shame at the "WHO CARES IF IT'S FAST, IT LOOKS RICE SO IT SUCKS LOOKS ARE ALL THAT MATTERS THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT A CAMARO RS IT LOOKS WAY BETTER THAN THE Z28" guy up there. 96z28man, you're an embarassment to us all.

Somehow I got on a mailing list and was sent a link when Mitsu unveiled this bad boy for the first time. They're catering everying towards the street-racing/ricer crowd; even coming up with a special development/street-racing products resale dept; and furnishing (ed) all the cars for the Lame & the Frivolous II (er I mean The Fast & The Furious II)...

Just think... a factory ricer complete with carbon-fiber components!

Who cares if its fast? It's still rice!

I dont have any suspension work, and my BFG tires are at like 5/32 of tread... and if I drop to 2nd or 3rd at 40mph or under and punch it, I'll burn the whole way through the gear. Need more traction. If a DSM is coasting at 30mph, puts the lever into 2nd, revs it and drops the clutch, it'll still launch it a bit. The AWD starts to suck past 40mph, and you can see that the weight/driveline losses are having an effect. I noticed that when running GST's from a 5mph roll and not trying to launch.

And about the comment of "only men with small peckers drive those cars" that sounds like a man with ***** envy. Dont make a fool of us all. I respect any car that is fast as long as it's not a stupid price or un-reliable. And the 4g63 has proven it's worth as a cost effective and reliable motor.

That's right, usually by then end of 2nd from a stop you have a good idea if you'll win, usually. I usually am running through 3rd though, but last time I raced I was still neck and neck with the competition and short a few mods with no traction. Once I can get this power to the ground it'll be another story.

And one more note - a ls1 MAY be faster then a Evo 8 stock at sea level, but what about in Colorado, when boosted cars have a nice advantage then??

Not AMAZING, but not bad considering none have listed drag radials or slicks. Infact, very few could use them considering most tracks do not have a burnout box that will work with AWD.
