This thing will eat LS1 Camaros & nearly run with Corvettes (for 30 Grand!)

I stumbled on this:
http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=01988794

It's the Lancer Evolution. It'll do 0-60 in 5 seconds, the quarter in 13.8, and can go 155mph!

Something's wrong in the world when a $35,000 Camaro SS can get it's lunch handed to it not only by a same priced Mustang, but also a miniature 4 door ricer sedan.

What's even worse, this thing has 271hp, while our soon to be fortified Cavalier & Ion have only 220!

You missed one thing, ITS a TWO-THOUSAND-AND-THREE Mitsu Evo It has a years advantage on the Camaro. Plus the new LS1's beat it in the 1/4 mile, which have never been known for their great 'lunches'.

I seriously doubt that car's gonna go for it's suggested retail price...in Hawaii imports are very popular. I'm guessing 35 - 36k out the door actual price.
And SS's in HI go for about 30 - 32 grand i think...not 35k

Topping out at 153 MPH...

I think the SRT-4 Neon for only $19,000 is just as impressive (if not more!)

Eat Ls-1 camaro's? it won't be eating any Ls-1 if those are the actual times.

Infact, i'm dissapointed with the numbers. I thought these Evo's did 0-60 in 4.3 second with a high 12 or low 13 second 1/4 miles. Is this the *** version only? And for a compact, it sure is heavy.

As tested in Motor Trend 14.1@101 and Road and Track 13.8@101. It's not going to be eating much of any F-body and certainly not a Corvette. Pretty weak for around 32k.

Those same magazines ran times within a tenth of a second in LS1 cars. The Evo in the hands of a good driver will turn better times, that should just be accepted. Also remember this is not a drag car. It can do much more than accelerate quickly. The suspension and brakes on this car are set up for much more performance than a Camaro/Mustang.

As for them going for sticker price. I dunno, thast hard to say. Go look at www.evolutionimports.com Those run for mid 30s imported. I cant see this car going for much more than that.

When it comes down to it, no matter how you look at it, this is going to be a great preforming car at a good price. 35k is definately fair if you ask me. Thats what 03 Mustang Cobras go for isnt it?

I should have stated that i don't go by magazine times at all but only use them as a starting point. The key thing is to look at the MPH. I would say that this seems to be accurate. In comparison to the F-body, the et's are similar because of the drivers not knowing how to launch a car with that power. The Evo has awd so it is much easier to lunch and get better et's. The mags get about 105-107 for a newer f-body and The only ones that I have seen for the Evo is 101 so I think I will be able to say with confidence that this car does not pose a threat to an F-body. To be certain, you will just have to go to the track and see what numbers they put up.

I heard they also did 6 grand clutch drops to get those times

either way, they are pretty quick, and I'm sure stock its not using all the boost it can.

the brakes on these things look nice! they look like 4 piston brembo's up front and some good rotors.

not too fond of the looks though..

If they sell right at $30k, I think they'll have no problem selling 6500 of these....

wait, if Mitsu can get away with just selling 6500, why can't GM, a much bigger company with tons more cash and resources, build another f-bod?

That's still only a few tenths behind an SS. I wouldn't get so confident yet. I'm sure there will be cheap turbo upgrades, cam gears, exhaust, intake, etc for this car too eventually. With bolt ons this thing will beat an SS. BPU+ upgrades much like with the Supra and this thing will hand an SS its ***. On a side note, how many pounds of boost is that turbo cranking out? I'm wondering how much more that engine can be maxed out.

Just wait until the Subaru WRX Sti comes over. 300hp and AWD. This is all even more the justificiation we need for 400hp in a 5th gen.

Add me to the disappointed list.

An AWD performance based car should do 0-60 in under 5 seconds, esp when it tips in at $30,000.

The car already has 20 psi from the turbo, how much higher can it go saftly? I would have thought it would have been a good deal faster, especially for the price north of 30k.

I made a mistake in the times I posted. It was not Motor Trend, it was Car and Driver and they poseted a time of 14.2@98............

Thumbs down So what....??

....Put me in the catagory of Who gives a rat's @$$

Dang dude.... I could stuff a big block in a Chevette and be fast, but I sure as heck wouldn't be seen driving it around town.

Alamo rented me a Lancer POS in Vegas last year and I wore dark glasses so people wouldn't laugh at me.....

I personally couldn't care less what kind of ugly danged econo-box they stuff a motor into and call it "performance".....you'll never see me driving one!

Mitsubishi Lancer or Subaru WRX my @$$!

Unhappy It's definitely RICE, but has...

Respectable performance, regardless.

These are the types of cars that scare me most. They threaten the very existance of ponycars... and they themselves ARE NOT ponycars.

And did you guys check out the rear wing on this ride?
Landing pad/aircraft carrier for dragonflies...
Build a house on it...
4000lbs of downforce on a 3200lb car...
Portable carport - follows you everywhere...
I could go on for an hour, but I'll spare you.

We all know this is going to feed right into the "Fast and Furious" frenzy...
