I'm not sure that they are.

If you mean "[i]Why would they use Zeta rather than Sigma on the DTS, then that's relatively easy. The Zeta has more interior space and trunk space for it's size, isn't necessarilly going to be built with global sales in mind therefore doesn't need to have a list of sophisticated expensive suspension and chassis pieces to be taken seriously next to BMWs and MBs.

I fully expect the CTS (and the STS if it survives) to continue on the Sigma.

Ok, so why is the SRX on the chopping block?

A couple of possibilities:
1. Slower than expected sales
2. The plant needs the capacity, not likely.
3. Replacement on a different platform, maybe Lambda or Zeta based which are both cheaper than Sigma.

They need to make the STS-lv. Take the lengthened STS and put in the biggest most powerful engine and drivetrain they can cram in.

Also, make an option to put a center console that runs through the middle towards the back, and have all the tech goodies in it.

Suspension would be tricky.. You want to make it somewhat responsive, but don't want ride quality to suffer.

Something even crazier would be to make it like the Malibu Maxx's rear, so you can have the rear seats slide back and recline even further, and put some sort of sunroof thing for the rear passengers.

I'd take that with a huge bench seat in the back. It would be like sitting in a couch in a nice living room.

Yeah really...

I think that STS needs to step up as a true 7 series fighter. What if a DTS was slotted for the entry level 3 series fighter?
What about this future RWD platform that will underpin future Holden and Pontiacs? Could this also lead to a TRUE 3 series fighter? Or will Caddy continue to deliver bigger then average sedans for thier respective markets? Might go over here in the US, but not in Europe.

That would defeat the purpose of it being a DTS. DTS is fullsize ultra lux, not sport lux. ATS sounds better to me. The BLS, or maybe BTS, name could function on this new compact sporty RWD sedan but not DTS, IMO.

Well, you are thinking inside the box. DTS can be anything! There is no law that say that the DTS hsa to be a full size luxury sedan? Hell, no one knows what the D in DTS stands for?
In looking at everything, with rumors of the STS getting canned, the SRX getting canned, and now that story that came out with Jim Queen saying that Caddy will move to Zeta...what will become of Sigma?
Does GM plan to have a more exclusive chassis for Caddy, or is the 25k Camaro going to consist of the same parts as a 60k DTS?

Lets see, there are 26 letters in the english alphabet; Cadillac is currently using three... "D", and Deville which it stands for has been a luxo barge for 60 years, so why would they decide to confuse the hell out of people and make an entry car?

As for the whole Zeta Caddy with todays safety standards econobox platforms have 90% of what luxury ones do. Its not like they're making Cadillacs on BOF Silverado platforms.

Additionally, Zeta does everything Sigma does, and several things better, for less money. Moving too, or combining Zeta and Sigma means a better product at the same or lower price point. Which I believe will more than satisfy the comparitvely miniscule number of enthusiast who even know the difference.

D stands for Deville. I am 26 and I know that. And you can be d*mn sure my sons will as well.

By your logic it would be OK if the Camaro were a compact FWD 2 door coupe. Because what does Camaro mean anyways?

Yeah I kinda wonder about that too. I know there's been talk of "Zigma" around here before, but I do wonder how long GM will hold onto two distinct platforms that are very similar in capabilities.

Also, given the G/K situation, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some branding issues around this too.
