The STSs future, speculation
The STSs future, speculation
Seeing as how the CTS grew quite a bit from the 1st gen to the 2nd and it is definately encroaching on the STS is size where does that leave the STS? I think we can look to China for the answer to that. The STS-L in China gains about 4" in wheelbase, and likewise in length. Give that the interior refreshening that was just released is very China STS & STS-L like, or even the same maybe, it makes sense to me that the STS grows to STS-L size and then the fullsize FWD DTS sticks around until the GMNA Zeta 2.0 Caddy large car is ready.
Does this sound reasonable to anyone else.
Anyone else have any other ideas as to what could happen?

Well, you would think they would give it a shot, with the recent pictures of the new interior, and its redesign soon, it should atleast be a little more competitive.
Right now I would say in its class, it wouldn't sell well. Current interior is not very good, exterior is subjective of course, but it is still expensive while not really offering much more than others in its class. But it should not get the Axe.

I've been thinking almost the exact same thing. Alot seems to be going into the CTS in that it's likely to see it's lineup expanded & with it now on the AWD capable Sigma, any advantage the STS would have over the CTS is gone. Throw in the likelihood that the next DTS will be barely larger than the STS seems to only strengthen that.
My guess is that the new STS interior is part of a mid-cycle freshening and that it's gone when the Zeta version comes out... at least here in the US.
What I dont understand is why cant the DTS and STS both coexist?
STS sits on a longer wheel base Sig II, giving it larger room, and moves up to fight the S/7/A8 size cars, with luxury items to match!!
DTS could be on a upgraded Zeta LWB, BUT you make the DTS a sportier, lower production, CLS type design expression with smoother lines, but still matches the Caddy design them. Coupe like roof top, more pronounced rear fenders that give it more of a fin look, and price it between CTS and STS, therefor it would not eat CTS or STS sales. People looking for the mid size 5/E/A6 size cars will go CTS, 7/S/A8 will go STS, and the people in the middle looking for a departure of Caddy's design with a bit more flair and smooth lines, the DTS.

IMO, the "CLS type design expression" would make more sense for the lower volume, Euro-competitor STS.
I hope the STS lasts longer than the FWD DTS.
How about a CTS-L to fill the CTS/STS gap. The put a Impala sized Zeta/Sigma above that.
Why is the SRX getting killed?
Having driven and spent a lot of time in one I can say its a really capable and all around fun vehicle, especially love the moonroof. It also manages to be pretty cool looking which is something I can rarely say for crossovers. I would be sad to see it go.
Im assuming its getting the axe because like many SUVs its got little to no interior size advantage over the comparable sedan... But that doesen't stop people from buying them. For the market Cadillac is trying to corner I don't think it would be smart to kill it.
As for the STS and DTS... The CTS has pretty much become the STS, probably because the CTS managed to make such a splash in the automotive world. So we probably have an all around more competent segment entry, once a smaller than CTS car comes in, they'll be doing good.
As for DTS... Dunno, what I think would make sense is something inline with the current model and market as one model, DTS, and using the same platform pretty well reworked to be close to the Sixteen in execution, something in the 80k and up range... I don't think DTS has the pull in the market for that kind of price, nor do I think Cadillac should throw away the oppurtunity to get butts into seats with the livery market.
Just MHO.

I think Cadillac's core models will be the CTS and the Escalade. I have read production of the Zeta Cadillac will be limited to around 30,000 to meet the demands of traditional Cadilac buyers, but I don't think pricing should be much higher than the current DTS. Ecotecs may be fine for the Pontiac and Holden Alphas, but a Cadillac Alpha needs to have a V6.
