STS Engine/Drivetrain News w/n
perhaps, but I would think, at least for some of us here, that the emphasis would be more on raw performance in the case of a sports or ponycar.

I wonder if the same would apply to ponycars and their engines too?

I enjoyed pulling up to the Home Depot and throwing a couple rolls of carpet in the car....the largest being 9'x11'. There were a couple people that just stopped and watched. I guess wondering how it could possibly fit in a Camaro.

Ya know Proud, I never would have thought to put my comment in that context, and yeah, it could be said about any car. I love my 4th Gen for all the things it is, and isn't, though. This 'un doesn't apply to me.

I'll take 'em as big and fast as they come, thank you very much!
But I am a car-nut... most folks aren't. I learned that years ago, and I have seen the reasons for it first hand.
FWIW, I have 2 Mustangs in my whole collection that aren't V8's -
a '93 vert that was part of a 9-car package deal ($1200 for a loaded '93 vert ain't bad),
and an '81 Ghia coupe with an I6, auto, loaded to the hilt with sunroof, bag, clips and all for only $450.
The vert will be sold this spring, but the coupe is likely to stay (it's the spitting image of my very first car, which I traded in for a new Bronco II while in college...
).Just wanted to keep it real, you know?
I'm fine with the V6 as the base motor. Some folks don't understand reality, I guess.
Now, as far as the N* option goes, where the hell is our supercharged 400 HP version that was promised to us with the Evoq concept car?!? I'm sure I'll be told to "wait for the STSv", but I want it now
Disclaimer - actually, I don't want it now for the sake of actually buying one. I want it to come out now so that it hits the depreciation curve that much faster

A supercharged impala ss has 260 hp along with a lot of other cheaper cars. I realy don't think that's anywhere near enough power for a big expensive luxury car and I wouldn't want my new expensive car to be on par with an average car.
I doubt that the 260hp isn't going to give the same power curve and torque as the 275 hp base northsar did.
I'm fine with a v6 in a Catera but not a high end car like the sts or deville.

The reality is that if you can afford a $50,000 STS, then you don't need to be a cheap *** and get a V6. I can see a loss in sales because of using a v6 option instead of a lesser powered v8. It seems that the lower powered 275 hp northstar was just fine for the SLS's, eldos, and devilles as a base option. Unless there'll be a big savings because of the engine alone, I don't see the point at all?

luxury does not equal power, though they are sometimes packaged together...
