STS Engine/Drivetrain News w/n

[Q]The 2005 Cadillac Seville STS will debut at the New York Auto Show in April and is expected to hit the market during the third quarter of 2004.

The all-new vehicle highlights Cadillac's signature exterior styling. An all-new interior incorporates genuine materials: eucalyptus wood, Nuance leather and aluminum accents. Engine options include the the 3.6L V6 VVT or 4.6L Northstar V8. The STS will also offer a rear-wheel or an all-wheel drivetrain.

The STS will be the third Sigma architecture vehicle built at the Lansing Grand River Assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan. The CTS entry luxury sedan and the SRX luxury performance utility are currently in production at the facility. [/Q]

The Caddy V6 is 260HP, THe base engine in a BMW 5 series is a 184HP I6. The Mercedes E-series base engine is 221HP V6. I think the Caddy V6 is fine.

I don't think any of those cars with v6's are all that great.

Luxury is all about excess and a v6 is pretty ordinary.

maybe the V6s you're used to... it pumps out 260hp... that's pretty decent for a base engine in any car in this weight range.

I agree, V8's have more of a luxury feel to them but even Mercedes and BMW know there are some people who care more about the other attributes of a car besides the engine. There is more to luxury than simply the drivetrain. Offering V8's only throughout an entire lineup limits a brand's reach. Keep the V8-only configuration in the largest offering, Deville.

Hmmm... there could be some SERIOUS wisdom in that comment.
I wonder if the same would apply to ponycars and their engines too?
