This site shows it's lines pretty good...bet it looks better in person.

I like those wheels better than chrome on the Impy, they show similar shadowing as the body...tho, color coding them to match body colors should help the effect.

Re: Which is sportier?

The new Impala has to be, without a doubt, the most boring looking car to roll out GM's doors since 1991(the last year for the box Lesabre).

Sporty is not what either of these cars are in the least bit. I definetly think the Avalon looks better simply because it is flashier than the Impala, even though some of the lines are weird.

I guess the Impala SS will be the ultimate sleeper with the 5.3 V8.

Just out of curiousity, is the new Impala a product of the Zarella regime, or Bob's regime? We are in for some serious trouble if this car came from Bob's regime.

The interior is under the new Bob Lutz's standards.

The exterior design is from Wayne Cherry's design studio (before Ed Welburn took over). Although the design was pretty much set in stone already, I'm sure Bob Lutz had some suggestions that changed some items, just like the LeCrosse. The new Impala was originally supposed to be out almost 2 years ago.

I think you're confusing job titles. Zarella was CEO, and was replaced by Wagoner, after being demoted to North American operations (a position Wagoner is now assuming in addition to CEO) . They have very little say in how a car looks. They are more into direction of the company than anything else. Zarella was the best friend of the CTS, and did alot of blocking. Wagoner is attempting to move resources back to cars, but neither have anything to do with design.

Bob Lutz first replaced Tom Davis in product development (who retired), then assumed the newly created position of global product (product czar) moved up to North American operations (in addition to product) when the demoted Zarella resigned, till Gary Cowger took over. Lutz isn't CEO, and given his age, probally will never be. GM waved their retirement rules to get him & keep him.

Bob Lutz had the benefit of having a chairmanship (previous design & product guys were just "presidents") & new positions created for him, but his influence in design is simply letting people loose to make the best car possible, and running blocker when other people try to screw it up.
