Some things to ponder.
Some things to ponder.
Just a few items to think about.
1. Buick, Pontiac, and GMC are combining. Logic would dictate that there is only one "large" coupe. Safe to say there will be no GNX or similar coupe at Buick.
2. When GM-NA ended their involvement with GM-Holden on Zeta, it wiped out a whole host of perspective cars from Buick, Pontiac, and even Chevrolet that was scheduled for 2008. GM has said some of these cars willbe moved to other platforms. The most certainly didn't say all or most of these vehicles would be moved to another RWD platform.
3. Back in 2000-1, there was alot of talk about a "Sigma-lite" chassis. I recall a certain GM insider once posted "Can you say Sigma?" around the same time. In 2003, GM-NA joined Holden's Zeta because is was essentially no cost to GM-NA since Holden was doing the platform for themselves, putting Sigma-lite aside. With GM-NA pulling out of Zeta, that means the "Sigma-lite" had at least 2 years (maybe even more) of development before it was shelved.
4. No fewer than 2 people here on this site, have refered to a stillborn Sigma based F-body and even now Mark Reuss publically refered to taking cost out of a Sigma as the basis for the next Camaro. One would easily get the impression that any postential Camaro would be a car essentially done or at least, restsrted.
5. Impala and Grand Prix will not be made in the US (CAW has a Camaro-like agreement regarding cars with those names). Therefore, if there was a RWD sedan made in the US, it wouldn't have the Impala or Grand Prix name. If there ever was word of Pontiac or Chevrolet RWD sedans being made in the US before 2010, it probally won't use those names.
6. Oshawa is undergoing rennovations to enable it to produce a variety of cars (was initially to support NA Zeta). That plant is going to have capacity for another product after 2007. Wilmington also has excess capacity, and is undergoing work that seems to be geared towards flexible assembly. Detroit-Hamtramck has excess capacity, and will be in the position for major renovation or closure soon.
7. Whatever happened to Belair?

Certainly it is a good development if the Sigma-lite Camaro was well along into the process when it was re-started. Makes me hopeful we can get the car sooner than later.

Yeah, a 4 year old design gets me excited. By the time it was released it ould be outdated. It would need significant rework unless it was light years ahead of the car's released recently.

As long as its "new" as in we've not seen it before, and the chassis isn't obsolete, I don't have a problem with it.
