Yea, I guess there's no Asian people in New Mexico.

The car won't be introduced until the Tokyo Auto Show in the fall and the peformance testing and adjustments are being done in Europe...I can't see any good reason for a car to be here in the U.S.
Although late July to mid September is the height of hot weather testing season, you can still see quite a few automakers racking up real world miles on their cars in the sparsely populated areas of Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada. Japan and Korean cars especially.

I've personally come across cars that turned out to be a Kia sedan, the current Honda Accord coupe, a cobbled together H3 prototype, and a scattering of other vehicles in Arizona or Nevada off season.

Very likely. We see it all the time.

Not really true at all.

Ok…Ok…You win; despite the fact that the vehicle isn’t even in pre-trial testing yet I’m sure there are several running around the U.S. Southwest.

I also heard (can’t name the source of course) that several fifth-gen Camaro’s have been spotted running that Alps.

There is nothing to win or lose. I don't see the reason why Nissan can't be testing the car in NM. Isn't there more than one? And even if there isn't it only takes hours to get it back to Japan if its needed or back to Eurpoe. They have come a long way in air travel these days!
These are just cars its not like the USAF developing missile defense. Its ok to take them out on public reads and actually drive them in the real world. Which is like earlier said NM happens to be a known testing area in the summer and its low population gives Nissan less of a chance to be seen with the car than say driving in Toyko at rush hour. So they decided to stay a little later.
For you a potential buyer of the Skyline shouldn't you be happy to see its coming along well and that they are testing it everywhere possible. If GM was testing the Camaro in the Alps I'd say good for them iron out the kinks.

There doesn't have to be several now. You were wrong, just get over it.

GM runs a lot of their camoflaged cars through my town (we have a very famous mountain road) and you can bet they don't have any problem stopping to get a drink at a gas station. They're not aliens, they get thirsty/hungry too.

I've seen them at the conveinience stores often. At least a half dozen times.

You're right...nothing to win or loose...I just find it more than odd to think that Nissan is going to take their most secretive project ever and not only start driving the cars around the U.S. without any camo but let yahooes take pictures of it...Nissan is more reserved than that even with production trial models of vehicles for which its already released final pictures to the public.

I also find it strange that such a clear picture is just "posted" on the net...don't you think that if someone actually had a legitimate picture of the GT-R (that they can substantiate as authentic) that person would have something better to do than post it for free on a web furum??? I would think so, anyway.

At any rate, here or not, yes I plan to buy one, probably in mid-late 2009.

I dont see what the big deal is. It needs real world testing like any other car. There were other pics posted on an import forum showing the GTR driving down a freeway.

cool to see them in the on-road testing phase. Maybe it's because I'm from the Detroit area, but why is it a big deal to see a cammo'd car running around?? I've see tons of cars around on public roads well before they were supposed to have been seen by public eyes. Personally, I'd love to be on an egineering crew testing a new car on the road, nice few days out of the office.

Only one of them with an 'escort'. That was a Solstice a couple years (year and a half maybe) ago going from rest stop to rest stop down I-94w towards Kalamazoo. Following it was a CTS and one of these:

Because of the Suburban, I kept my distance and didn't pull into the next rest stop that they did.

It's not that it's a "big deal" but there are at least two problems with your analogy...

...there was no camo (unless you consider a front-end bra camo)

...Detroit (as does LA) contains major design centers for almost all manufacturers (including the transplants) but especially Ford, GM and Chrysler so it wouldn't be surprising to see GM or Ford or Chrysler driving test cars around in the area...it's their back-yard after all. However, that's quite a bit different than spending a LOT of money to transport a car half-way around the world just to drive it in the U.S. especially when Nissan North America has no part in the design or production of the GT-R.
