Doh! I meant 3,2XXlbs. 2,3XX is pretty much out of the question

Sadly, anything around 3,200 lbs is probably out of the question also.

Not if we put an LS1 in a Silvia or Miata

Agreed, stupid sheetmetal , but it would be nice if the basic shell was steel and all the rest aluminium (hood, doors, trunk, suspension, etc), but base 50k pony cars dont sell well in volume

You can always lighten up your own ride, so why the big issue of getting to or under 3200#'s. You make it too flimsy and light and 5mph crashes mean disaster...
If I want a sub 3200 lb car I can make one; racing seats, deleting options, carpet/padding etc...but we're back to a single purpose car then...

Yall wont have to worry about that anyways , a 3200# Camaro is a pipedream . Its even a longshot at a pipedream , haha . If its IRS , it would be believeable to say it may be under 3600#'s . I dont think itll be GTO heavy , but I think it will be the heaviest the Camaro has been . Logic would tell ya that much

Re: Should the new Camaro be smaller or larger than the "05 Mustang?

It's WAY easier to add hp than to subtract weight, particularly if you want to keep a car streetable. I'd MUCH rather have a new Camaro be ~300hp/3200 lb. Camaro than even 450hp at 3600 lb.

Agree that even a 3200 lb. Camaro is a pipedream. I doubt seriously GM has the presence of mind to anticipate the coming emphasis on fuel economy we're going to see in the market. They'll out-Mustang the new Mustang with a 400+ hp 3600 lb. car, right when even serious motorheads will need to get on the order of 30mpg combined out of their daily-drivers.

If they were SMART, they'd make a ~3000 lb./350hp Camaro out of the Solstice. But they're NOT

Ugh.

Most of your recent posts have had this ominous undertone to them. You are starting to make me really nervous.

There are new rollover regs on the way (from what I've heard) that's going to make alot of cars pigs.

Can you imagine, the current GTO is 3600-3700 lbs, and the next one might need an additional 200-300 lbs of structural reinforcement?

More then 3600lbs should be out of the question. There is no reason it should be GTO weight.

You know what I was just thinking about. If the new base v8 in the 5th gen is a 350hp 5.3 like everyone on here is presuming it will be, and the car weighs more than 3,600lbs, I could very well see the 4th gens outperforming these vehicles, unless GM decides to get really aggressive with the gearing in the t56 and the final drive, which I doubt, especially since its a base model that will more than likely have DOD. I think the base v8 5th gens will look even more stupid at the drag strip if the above turns out true, because I somehow doubt the IRS on it will launch like a solid axle does.

If it's as big or bigger than a Mustang, why would I wait for it and not just buy a Mustang.

I'm sure Powertrain will have lots of power on tap for us. Of course, a smaller, lighter package will always outperform a larger, heavier package.
