Sales are NOT doing so well. Honda blames the lack of incentives. I think it's much more than that.

Wouldn't be much different than if Volkswagon tried to release a pickup truck in the US. Doubt that would take off with instant momentum, either.

"*For 2006, Honda is complying with the new SAE standard for measuring horsepower and torque, SAE net (Rev 8/04). This new method slightly reduces a vehicle's horsepower rating and torque due to more stringent testing procedures. Many manufacturers are still using the older standard of measurement. Horsepower and torque can only be fairly compared if both vehicles were calculated using the same SAE standard."
It sounds like they are trying to blame the loss of HP on the testing, not how they tested before. But they are worried about fairly comparing HP now that they were found to be cheating.

The base msrp is too high and the trucks come fairly loaded. I think Honda should make some of the standard equipment optional and bring down MSRP. A reg cab option wouldn't hurt either.
Either way, the ridgeline lacks variety and i think that hurts it. Truck owners like to configure their own trucks imo. Toyota gives their Tacoma owners that option as does everyone elsed except Honda.
Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...
I also realized that if you wanted to lift something over the side of the bed and in it, you better be about 6' 4" - 6' 6" or you might not be able to do it. As you get up close to the cab it gets rediculous. What if you wanted to throw a box or bag in the bed really quick as you got in your "truck"? You would have to go lower the tailgate and climb up into the bed to get it out, because you cant just reach over the side. I know it has a trunk for that, but who wants to go through all that trouble to put something in the trunk?
I might be exagerating a little, I know...

Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...
I'm 6'-1" tall. I can reach the hooks in the front portion of the bed, that attach to the floor when I'm hooking on my motorcycle tiedowns or putting items in the bed or taking them out. I do lean against the side when doing so. It's not the most conveinent setup, but certainly not bad enough to render the truck unuseful. The Avalanche would be at least as difficult if not more-so.
As for price being an issue, it isn't. I built a comparable Colorado online and got a MSRP of $29,xxx, my Ridgeline stickered at $30,590 and I purchased it for $27,500 out the door. I know with the employee discount etc etc, I could have gotten the Colorado cheaper, but that wasn't what I wanted. I also didn't want a full size, so I didn't even look.

Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...
How much smaller is the ridgeline than a fullsize? It looks a lot bigger than a colorado, and not much smaller than a fullsize to me. I've only seen them seperate though. Never a side by side comparo. I know pound-wise theres a good diference, but what about tall, wide, and long?

I think if VW released a truck it would fair a lot better than one honda fielded. Then again, I dont see VW releasing a FWD unibody "truck".
Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...
As I keep saying, the public aren't totally stupid. The sales results will judge the Ridgeline accordingly. As for incentives denting sales, well the sales of Accord are fine without Honda having to offer the big incentives. Usually automakers offer the cars at lower prices to stimulate sales. If Honda won't play that game then slowing production seems to be a higher priority rather than to cheapen the brand by offering the consumer better value.
If Honda were forecasting sales of 50000 pa then I would guess they thought it would be a conservative figure. In other words, internally, they would have been hoping to shift more.

As for the Ridgeline...obviously not too many people are buying into it with the recent production slash.

Now children, play nice. If not you will both be forced to drive a FWD unibody minivan inspired "truck" for the rest of you lives. (Just trying to get the thread back on topic.)

basically.
Ive had the displeasure of driving one of these once, my boss decided to purchase one, and it was my duty to take it to the shop while he was on vacation.
I can honestly say, a S-10 feels more solid, it feels like a oversized civic. Sadly not even the Type-R.
