Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...

Me and my father-in-law were out today in his new Sierra, and we came across this Ridgeline with an ATV on the back. It was funny, because the ATV did not fit, so they had the tailgate down with it tied in the back. The best part was the rear tires though.....I am guessing it has an IRS because you could see the back squatting with the tires leaning in towards the car. I just though that was worth sharing

Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...

there's a pretty large Honda motorcycle dealer by me that has a Ridgeline in the showroom with 2 CR250s in the "bed"(and the back tires are barely on the "tailgate" of that thing). the first time i went in there with a friend of mine to look for a new bike, i saw something underneath the rear of the truck, so curious little me goes to take a look. there is a block of wood under the rear diff. i never understood why they put it there til now.......

I forget who the resident Ridgeline apologist is here....I've said from day one its not a "truck", its not even an SUV in the normal sense. Its a car...trucks have frames, not unibodies. Trucks are RWD, not FWD with add-on rear drive.

One of the guys on my local board said his buddy got one. Went to Home Depot or wherever to get a load of mulch. He said the truck had to stay in VTEC the whole time going back because it had such a hard time hauling it.

IRS+truck=bad idea, unless you really like heavy rear negative camber when hauling a load.

It would have been far better if Toyota had built it, instead.

I was at a honda motorcycle shop yesterday and in the parking lot was a ridgeline with a bike in the back. Tire hanging off the back of the tailgate and and everything. I kinda laughed, but didnt pay it much attention. I walked over to the CTS-V and talked to the owner of that for about a half hour.

Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...

have you looked at the price of those things?
you could buy a real truck for that price...around $30K!!!

i figured it was kind of a "Subaru Brat" deal.

ah, heck, they'll look good at the soccer games, going thru the ditch in 4Lo!

Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...

Uhh.... guys?
Bed size on Colorado crew cab: 61.1x42.6x18.6 (width measured at wheel wells)
Bed on Ridgeline (which only comes in crewcab): 60.0x49.5x20.7
Ridgeline wins hands down.

And regardless of 'squat', it has a 5000 pound towing capacity and a 1500 pound bed capacity; that's higher than a lot of trucks its size.

What is it's size?
Curb weight: 4498 (for the loaded model, AWD)
Length: 206.8
Width: 77.8
Height: 70.3
Clearance: 8.2

So expecting it to compare to a 1500 Avalanche which is the following size:
Curb weight : 5654
Length: 221.60
Width: 79.8
Height: 73.6
Clearance: 8.6

Is positively retarded.

The Ridgeline is on the large side of a COMPACT truck, and its towing and bed weight specs are easily within normal specs for modern day compact trucks, in fact they exceed the Colorado/Canyon by quite a bit!

It's both body on frame and unibody

The integrated closed-box frame with unit-body construction is quieter and safer than the conventional body-on-frame design. Not only does this greatly minimize the buzz, squeak and rattle generally associated with body-on-frame trucks, but it also greatly enhances the Ridgeline's ride and handling, especially when fully loaded. The two integrated, fully boxed and reinforced frame rails and seven fully boxed cross members give it added strength.

The problem is that they come almost fully loaded... 27k starting out in sticker price, getting up into the mid-low 30s with nav.

Price out most any other compact truck out there to have all the same options as the Ridgeline (Colorado included as I've show in other threads) and they work out to be VERY closely priced - sticker price, anyway.

Now obviously if you're shopping for a truck and don't care for or want all the gadgets then the Ridgeline is not worth even glancing at. But if you wanted a crew cab 4x4 loaded to the gills, then give the Ridgeline a very serious look.

Re: Saw a Ridgeline pretending to be a truck...

Ridgeline is a great truck for people who never use their trucks as a truck, and prefer a car-like vehicle.

Anyone who gets a Ridgeline expecting it to act like a truck isn't being realistic an should buy a real truck instead.

I think part of the problem is that your can't give the Ridgeline a very serious look, because it is a pretty ugly vehicle. If you can get around that, and you need a truck built for more of a yuppie audience, then the Ridgeline would probably be a great choice.
