So...Saturn starts as a entry level brand designed to get buyers in GM's showrooms who would not normally be there.
Now you take them, dump billion in design, and slot them as a brand above Chevy and Pontiac...but wait...whats that make Buick?
Maybe if they left Saturn where it is demographic wise and gave it better designed..but not necessarily more expensive product things would work.
You don't kill a brand and then replace it with another..makes no sense....GM's contant state of flux at it again. I wonder if Old's would still be here if Lutz was in charge when the decision was made.
It could work though because maybe all the original Saturn buyers can now afford a more expensive car.

How dare you say Pontiac and Scion in the same sentence...All Pontiacs should be the highest availble performance for thier respective platforms...disregarding anything Cadillac or Corvette. This is why Grand Prix is the performace W-body..and G6 looks to be the same for Epsilon. I know at some point in the 60's there were probaly Chevy's that were as fast as sibling Pontiac's...but that is not how GM see's it today.
Way I see it...
Chevy Person= Buys American, thinks price first...other factors second.
Pontiac Person= Cares first about style and a performance image. Will pay slighty MORE for it.
Olds/New Saturn Person= Gets off on percieved quality and stylish, yet sensible design. Will pay a premium for this. These people would normally buy imports, but are loyal enough to settle for the closest American made car. They are quicly decreasing in number.
Buick Person= Doesn't want anything that could excite them to a heart attack. #1 priority is there car lasts till it is paid of or you die...which ever one comes first.

Meantime, Saturn and GM are betting that extraordinary vehicles plus customer-pampering service will be a winning formula to finally make Saturn a success
Time will tell , but I really think the new cars would fair better with a name like ....say , Opal
