I dont see why they'd drop the stick. Its not like we're dealing with weak, large fwd trannys, just stick your run of the mill 5 speed in there. Can it really cost GM that much money to offer an manual option?
The Getrag 5-speed manual has to go away with the introduction of the new 3.6 liter V6 - it simply doesn't have the torque capacity. This is also the same reason why Ford didn't offer this tranny with the Lincoln LS and Jaguar S-type V8 models.

If Cadillac wanted to continuing offering a manual on the V6 CTS, they would either have to look at a Tremec unit or the much more expensive Getrag 6-speed. Either way, it isn't worth the bother. Since gearheads will be buying the CTSv anyway, a slushbox should suit the base car just fine.

I think I remember reading somewhere that when CTS was planned out and they decided to offer the manual, they expected less than ONE PERCENT of the build to be manual.

Now, I could be remembering the exact number wrong, but the point was made that they weren't offering the manual to turn a profit, but rather to pull themselves more in line with BMW...

If that is the case... I would think a compatible manual for the new engine would be used, unless they have decided to scrap the plan.

I would hope they would not scrap the plan, since everything else at Cadillac has been progressing so wonderfully... BUT, since CTS-V is coming out, they may look at that as the (only?) place they need to offer the manual.

It will be interesting to see if the V6 CTS retains the manual or not.

That's a terrible idea! People were praising Cadillac because they put the stick in the manual version! What a bunch of idiots.

Straight from the horse's mouth. If this clarifies anything, do tell me, because I can't make heads or tails of it:

No announcement has been made regarding the future availability for the CTS of a 3.6 liter engine coupled only with an automatic transmission.
