V6 Prefrence

3.6L DOHC or 3.9L--which holds the most appeal in a V6 Camaro. Yeah I know, most want the V8 versions but I beleive the V6 deserves to be done well and done right. Not some POS like V6 Stang with its monter truck 225/65/16 tires and marsh mellow suspension...ect Opps sry for my rant

3.6L DOHC with direct injection. 300 HP sounds nice.

3.6 by far. 3.9 is slowly fading away into nothingness.
G6, Uplander and Impala will be the only cars that use the 3.9
Aura, Malibu, G8, CTS, Lambda and Upper level G6 all use the new 3.6. The Vue, Nox and Torrent also use the 3.6.
Time to let it go, 3.6 in either a higher output 275 like the Lambda, or around 300 with DI in the CTS, but I would like to see the power around the 280-300hp range.

Dare I say I would almost prefer a motor with a single overhead cam for simplicity sake when doing repairs? I remember when I used to have to work on the old 3.4 DOHC motors in the Monte Carlos and Grand Prixs and they were a real headache. That is what pops to mind when I see the option of a 3.6DOHC motor.

I agree. 300-320 hp V6's will be common very soon. And GM is pushing to get more HFV6's out there.

3.6L V6 all the way. If they play this right, GM could parlay the V6 Camaro as a stylish, more affordable 350Z or G35 alternative, as opposed to being just a Mustang competitor.

re

A 5.3 should be base and probally better gas mileage and as cheap as the DOHC 6. But for insurance maybe they have to have a 6 option.

You cannot have a base V8 engine. Not everyone wants a V8 engine.

I think that the 3.6 could offer a great balance of good power for the car without getting crazy. Still would offer a great sports car experiance.
That said, I think that if the 3.6 does come in at 300hp, I dont see the need for a base V8?

For a car in this type of marketing slot, I would think that whatever GM is offering as the "HF" V6 in other cars would be used as the base engine in Camaro. I see very little point of a sportscar with a "HV" V6.

I beleive the base should be a v-8. I dont see why people get 'sports' cars that have a little ole v-6 in them.

Not everyone wants a V8. Not everyone wants or needs 400hp+
Its tough to sell 100k units with a V8 only.
V6 will appeal to a much broader audiance then an all V8 set up would...but I got a feeling that you would settle for a revised 4th gen.

I don't see why you can't see the need for a V6. Lutz wants this puppy to sell!
And like has been said before it needs to appeal to a wide range of buyers.

Whats the production target over 125K per year? Check out production stats for all the years of Camaros ever made. They sold tons of V6 cars.

Some V6 buyers might step up to the V8 but I think most would not. Cost is a big factor. You may not see why people buy V6 cars--but its a nesseicity to have it!
