Rendezvous gets 255hp 3.6L

http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=05822049

The 2004 Buick Rendezvous will be getting a 255hp 3.6L Dohc v6 with Variable valve timing. Till now, i've never heard of this 3.6L Dohc 6 with variable valve timing. Is this old news, or have you guys heard of this engine before.

This'd make for an excellent base engine for a 5th gen IF and WHEN it returns.

Does this mean that the 3.8 pushrod is dead? I know it's dead in the Ford camp, but chevy seems to believe in pushrods.

It's the new "High Feature" V6. This is old news. It will be going into the CTS for 04' as well. I think it is supposed to be rated at 260 HP for the caddy.

The 3.6 is a narrower angle than the 3.8. That's why the 3.8 never went into the Rendezvous (it was designed on a Chevy platform designed around the 60 degree V6).

A base Cadillac CTS with 260 horsepower (those hugh, quick, mid 90s Impala SSs had 265) with a stick?!

If it stays around the $30,000 mark, seems like yet another winner. And this is the entry level Cadillac?

I heard the stick option goes away with the new engine.

Damn it, that really screws it up for me!

I'm surprised the engine fits the Rendezvous. As CMC said, the minivan platform was designed around the 60º V6 and definitely does not fit the 90º 3800. I would think a DOHC 60º V6 would be about as wide as a 90º OHV V6.

For every month the CTS is sold without a standard transmission, one Cadillac product planner should be killed.

It's mostly just taller. Actually, one of the Fiero engine swap Web pages shows that the old 3.4 TDC is exactly as wide as the 3.4 pushrod engine.

Where did you hear that? Not saying it isn't true, let's just not jump the gun.

Stick or auto it's gonna be tough to accept the fact that a V6 Cadillac can run neck and neck with my Camaro or a new Mustang GT.

I can't find it. I know I saw it somewhere. I tend to remember when we lose another model to the shiftless masses...

I doubt it, but who knows, maybe since the CTSv will have a 6-speed manual They feel that most manual fans are performance fans too and would want the V8.

I had read rumors that the Malibu was going to get the 260HP DOHC V6 as a performance version, can anyone confirm this? It sounds like a good idea to me, this car needs to be able to kick the shlt out of V6 Accords and Altimas

I dont see why they'd drop the stick. Its not like we're dealing with weak, large fwd trannys, just stick your run of the mill 5 speed in there. Can it really cost GM that much money to offer an manual option?
