A question for Johnny Hunkins...
In the most recent issue of GMHTP ("Bangin' Gears" section) you state that...."Unofficially we hear from sources all over that our Camaro is nearing completion."
Could you please explain?
Thanks

if there is a new camaro near completion why do they keep it such a secret and keep people so angry at them
tell us so we can hold out on buying that mustang or 350Z and keep it for a new camaro
if it is true and they aren't telling anybody they are losing alot of sales

Simple, because they are stupid.

Also it is pretty clear there alot of projects in line for GM's new car development money..and it seems the Camaro is pretty much at the back of the line which makes sense. I would much rather get high volume RWD Impala's and Monte's to the market then a Camaro.

... I would have to disagree completely with that. Camaro should be on the top of the list. Teenagers/Low 20's don't want an Impala or a Monte Carlo. GM can leave Camaro at the bottom of the list and sell a bunch of Impalas to 35+ but in 10 years from now that 20 year old that would've bought a camaro, but bought a Mustang or 350z are now brand loyal to Ford/Nissan.

Gotta agree with Branden on this. Camaros sold pretty badly (yea I know, GM did it to themselves) their last few years, yet Impalas sold pretty decently, and the single V6 model rear drive CTS is selling extremely well. If it was my job on the line to wisely use the company's money, I'd have to go with an Impala & Monte Carlo first as well. It's not great to have to say it, if you have a "no compromise" car like Camaro is for the price it is, and it's appeal is limited, it's more of an afterthought than a major part of the program. Probally not what one should hear on a Camaro website.
Evil, I haven't seen Johnny's new edition mag yet, did Mark Reuss actually say no plans for an affordable RWD in the near future? If the Aussie dollar keeps dropping, next year's GTO should only be 30 grand, and Chevrolet is more than just a little interested in having a rear drive sedan by 2006. I'm kind of curious as to his definition of affordable or near future.

Teenagers/low 20's people normally don'y buy a Camaro...and the new one will likely cost more than the old one farther throwing a wrench in things. The Camaro is last in line for more reasons than that though.

Also consider that the type of people buying Camaros are very loyal, and that many people go straight to auto enthusiasts for advice when buying a new car. Those factors can have a great impact on cars other than Camaro.
Lastly, consider the Halo effect. The Camaro draws someone into a dealership, but they realize that it is 'too much car' or 'too impractical' etc. and then end up in a monte carlo, cavalier or impala. This is one of the major Reasons Nissan brought back the Z. without it, their image suffered, and they fell off peoples radar screen. This is also the type of car that people modify, race, show and take pride in.
If I were GM, Camaro wouldn't be the top car on my list, but you better believe it would be very high on that list.
He says in another article in the issue in reference to the upcoming interview that when asked If GM had any plans for an affordable RWD car in the near future the anwser was "NO"

I think that GM is 110% wrong for handling Camaro's future (or lack of) the way it is.It's very simple, just give us something to go on...Something that says Camaro will be back!
We all know they dropped the ball, but let's move forward.
Why is some sort of an answer so damn difficult?
