Question about the CAW and the Camaro name.
......since people who obviously are either in the know or actually work for GM say that the SS concept definately is NOT a 5th gen Camaro..........and take into account that there is nothing about this concept that looks like a Camaro......also realizing that GM is promoting it's SS sub-brand........please tell us, with all of your 3 posts (so far)......what real information do you believe you have to make such a definative statement??
GM has much bigger problems at the moment than coming out with a concept that is so far removed from a Camaro as to be laughable.......it is what it is......a compilation of things SS built to promote the SS sub-brand and nothing more.........

Some of what you say is true. Particularly about the 3 posts. The SS is a concept, not a real car. This is not "the" Camaro. It is a prototype being thrown out there to see what the reaction is. The reaction is good so far. But the car will never sell as a four-door. It will be a two door. It is designed to have nuances of the second gen. Camaro, which was the most popular F-body of all.
It will reappear, likely in late '06-'07 as a Camaro SS, though it will not look exactly like the SS concept. The SS shows where Camaro is going, it is Lutz influenced, that's why is has a lot in common with his Dodge Challenger concept that never made it to production at Chrysler. The SS is where the Camaro is going. The two-door will likely be at Detroit next year.
You see, I have a crystal ball that tells me everything.

I'm not trying to flame you at all. Your new here so I'll be nice and give you the benefit of the doubt. But if you want anyone here to believe you, your going to have to back this info up. Where are you getting it? Anyone can pick up an auto magazine and read whatever the author's opinion however, there are people on this board who really have an inside in the industry and have proved it to us. You’ve come to this site with no backing and said some things that go completely against what the insiders here have been telling us for months. I'm just saying give us a reason to believe you.
And BTW if this is someone from the board trolling, stop. Don’t troll on this thread.
Speaking of subjects taking on a life of their own!
I honestly don't know what GM's actual plans are for the SS, but it most certainly ISN'T the next Camaro! That much I'm as sure as I can be about these types of things.
That leaves the SS as:
A. A styling exercise that shows the direction of the C6
B. A styling exercise that shows the next direction of the Impala.
C. A styling exercise that shows the next direction of the Monte Carlo.
D. A throwaway styling exercise (most concepts don't reach production).

E. A styling exercise that shows the potential directiono f a resurrected Chevlle nameplate....
But I think a lot of that depends on the Monte Carlo nameplate... so it kind of blends in with your option C.

Plus an older person pointed out to me that everyone refered to the Chevelle as a Malibu back in the day...meaning it was alot rarer to hear the car called Chevelle...
Is that true? I am too young to know.

From what I have been told the talk of a Chevelle is alot of smoke with no fire...GM has alot more to fix before they make a new one. Plus you then have an issue with there being three coupe names (Monte Carlo, Chevelle, and Camaro) that all have a deep heritage and good arguments for thier case, yet only one or two slots for a mid-sized coupe Chevrolets line up. I would say there is a 85% chance you won't see the car in the next 5-8 years...but you never know the way things change. Even a Camaro is not looking great at this point.

But I think Camaro does have a very defined position, and it's a real need at GM...
I was thinking about GM's sporty coupe status, and the lack of one... if you count cars like The Mitsu Eclipse in the affordable sporty coupe market, GM has a glaring hole, and Camaro (and Firebird) are really leaving a gap.
Chevelle was to Malibu what GTO was to the Le Mans. The Malibu was the base midsized chevy coupe (also a sedan version) and the Chevelle was basically the same car with a lot more eye candy and horsepower.
