Although, I don't think any type of gaudy hoodscoops or ground effects will help the new "GTO's" dull appearance. Looking at the latest pictures, the new "GTO" actually looks more boring than the Grand Prix.
If Pontiac, instead of releasing the new GTO, said "We are going to drop an LS1 drivetrain into the current Grand Prix, redesign the suspension, and make the interior high quality, and charge $35,000", would you guys be thrilled?

.....backtrack here a little and say that given the situation Pontiac & GM found themselves in after the demise of the f-body.....i.e. w/o a V8 RWD sports car......and given the limited funding and time constraints......I think the GTO as a "stop-gap" or even a permanent model is a wonderful result.
I too, argued long and hard about the seemingly lack of effort and style in this car, BUT, when I realized the whole picture I agreed you can not fix everything overnight and there is a limit to the available funds to create a limited production, small market type vehicle.
I never argued about the package itself.....I'm tickled pink about the reported quality & performance that will be available! Hell, a LS6 is coming next year?!?!!!
To me the only disappointment left was the fact they chose to use a legendary moniker w/o giving it the one styling que it always had... hood scoops.....I know hoods are an extremely expensive design element and there just wasn't the time or $$ to do another one for this car.
Now, I know Pontiac is thankfully, moving away from the gawdy tacked on body panels and going for a much more refined and upscale look.....BRAVO!............So I guess the aftermarket will need to be the one to offer such a hood........not always a bad thing...gives us a choice.
Time to take a step back and absorb the whole scenario that brought us to this point....and be thankful we even have a V8, RWD sedan to argue over..........it could be worse.......much worse.......no one car is for everyone...thank goodness.

I don't particularly like the wheels... they look like they would be more at home on a coffee-can exhaust Civic. Also not wild about the screamin' yellow paint... but I know that can be changed. I don't think these wheels are the answer, but they're all I had available in the proper perspective (99-00 WS6 wheels). I think the car looks much better in a classier color. I "Photoshop-ed" mine to light pewter metallic.

i like it except for the wheels and lack of a hood scoop. but i think they will put a hood scoop on it and maybe change the grill for 05. but did anyone notice that red car we saw earlier has different wheels? they look like the style of wheels on the GXP models. that would look at lot better than the ones on the yellow car.

<-----18 year old "kid" that wants the new GTO, and doesn't care what all the haters on this board think. Will probebly have enough money to buy GTO when he's 50

Doug I agree wholeheartedly with your post (with a couple tiny exceptions). I only copied some to save people some scrolling.

I agree with DH completly about the hood scoops, I've been saying that since the 1st pictures of the GTO were released. A GTO should have them no matter what, they always did. If it had the scoops, (which would set it apart from all the cars it looks like) I'd probably think it'd be OK with no spoiler. The car needs them to be more identifiable on the road or anywhere, and to be true to what its supposed to be. They need to do anything they can to make it a real GTO in the public opinion because alot don't and aren't going to consider it that.
Well, we've heard little things about the 05 GTO, hopefully besides the LS6 and more time to work, it will be improved and more of what we want.

Hood scoops target the younger crowd. Go find your average ricer. He's got an SS hood on his Civic.
Clean curvy lines target an older crowd. BMW and Benz don't need hood scoops to sell. The Corvette doesn't even have hood scoops. Clean lines and simplicity target an older audience, which is the target group of this car. Therefore since this is targetting an older, more wealthy audience, it DOESNT NEED hood scoops. Wait? Maybe someone didn't hear me on this. Let me repeat myself.
Since this is targetting an older audience desiring clean lines (a la 3 series, etc) it
DOESNT NEED HOOD SCOOPS to appeal to this audience. In fact, hood scoops would probably prevent the older buyers from buying this car. Therefore...
IT DOESNT NEED HOOD SCOOPS!!!!!!

Who cares what those morons do???? No1 thats who. They are a joke. Every1 knows they don't come with them and really shouldn't have them.
Where do you think hood scoops came from?! Hood scoops/styling treatments are for performance cars and have been on them from the start. BMW's are not musclecars and neither is the Corvette. And its hood isn't as plain as the GTO's either.
