Is this our future? Ronn Scorpion

I saw this car on SpeedTV's Supercars Exposed the other night:

450-hp, 0-60 in 3.5s, 200mph top speed, twin-turbo V6 hybrid that gets 40mpg! Sure its $175k, but its built in Texas and is badass.

Probably turbo V6s and smaller V8s. Too bad NASCAR isn't proactive in allowing teams to EFI 4.0 V8s, that'd be a great place to prove out the technology.

While still impressive, its much easier to do that with a kit car than a mass production vehicle that has to meet safety standards as well as be reliable and daily drivable.

Not to mention, companies like that often make claims that somehow don't show up when the rubber meets the road...

Agreed 100% on both parts. The body is carbon fiber and one of the reasons the Scorpion is so expensive. However my point was more to do with the technology of the hydrogen injection (what the manufacturer gives as the explanation of the "hybrid" moniker) and how it improves fuel efficiency. There are plenty of companies working on solutions that will give CAFE friendly numbers without sacrificing performance; however it may require us giving up some of our preconceived expectancies of what that means, e.g. N/A 6.0L+ V8s.

NASCAR is a joke... they have a formula that gives them tons of money... believe me.. there are NOT going to change anything... just add more drama so more people fall for it... it's a like latin novela on wheels...

The hydrogen injection system is bunk. It produced the H2 through the electrolosys of water while driving. It takes more energy to produce the H2 than is gained back from burning it.
