Sooo, I drove a CTS-V today....ummm....wow.

A gorgeous car in every way. Top of the line interior. The one I drove had the Recaro pkg with the suede steering wheel surface. I really liked that. But, you guys don't want to hear about all that, right?

The thing about the CTS-V is it's so calm and collected cruising around town with the XM classical music station on. Put your foot in it though and O.M.G. the LSA kicks you in the gut like a Bruce Lee side kick. Literally, it takes your breathe away. And the speedo needle sweeps from 40 to 100 in the blink of an eye.

This car is simply BRUTALLY fast. Loved it!

I would love to drive one of the new CTS-V's. I really enjoyed my '04 CTS-V - but I know the new one is a whole new beast.

the Recaro seats in the CTS-V or the Cobalt SS didn't feel comfortable at all to me at the Dallas Auto Show. Otherwise the car was stunning. I sorta of like the standard CTS front end a little better though. I am wondering if there might be a chance that a CTS-V Coupe or Wagon might ever make it to market?

In Top Gear Series 12 Episode 2 the guys go to America to test out the Challenger SRT8, CTS-V and ZR1. What you just said was essentially what Clarkson said about the ZR1 and actually that is also a big part of why he named the ZR1 his pick for car of the year for 2008 in his column.

At any rate they loved the CTS-V as well.

Change your mind about this engine in a Z28? Nothing like a blown motor, so much fun!!!

The CTS-V is simply awesome.

However, I would want something different for a Z/28. I'd accept much less power as long as I could have much less mass in a smaller package.

I am curious why you think this. Is it because of the Z/28 name (typically being lightweight Camaro)? Supercharged motors are so much fun, especially the confused looks people give you....most have never heard anything like it!

I think there's a difference in personality between a SC'd engine and a hotly tuned NA engine. Big difference. Plus, your not going to package the LSA in a small, light car.

It's funny, the first thing my son asked me when I got home was, which was better, the CTS-V or the M3. Now, that's a tough question - since they're both so damned good. I'm not sure I could pick one. But they are both very different packages to drive. Both incredibly good though - maybe the best the world has to offer.
The CTS-V has 150 more hp than the M3, but is much larger and 600 pounds heavier. In the end, their performance numbers are very similar, but they get there in very different ways. The CTS-V feels like a jet powered freight train on steroids, the M3 feels like a race car with license plates.

My minds eye sees the M3 as closer to what *I* think a Z/28 should be than the CTS-V.

That's not to say that the CTS-V is not an absolute badass, but it's a large, heavy, very fast, fully loaded, Cadillac sedan. That's not what a Z/28 should be.

Fair enough. I'm sure the V was a blast to drive. You ready to trade your CTS in on it?

I just put a Magnusun TVS1900 supercharger (very similar to LSa blower) on my GTO. We had the car at 570rwhp at 11lbs of boost. It is an auto (this is my second GTO..not the one in the sig), and the trans was slipping so we detuned to 520is rwhp till I can get a new trans.

The guy who was tuning it had it on the highway doing 100mph...just playing around he floored it, and spun tires!

My point is the LSA has much more potential.

I took one out when my V was in the shop. Amazing car. If I was planning on spending 62k on a car it would probably be one of them.

I'll wait until I can pick one up for ~30k and get a gently used one.

Charlie,

Have you driven an LS7 Z06? I only ask because, while the CTS-V is certainly badass, I was slightly disappointed (but not shocked) when it was running times and trap speeds very much mirroring those of a base Corvette LS2/LS3, which are similar to a C5 LS6 Z06. Pretty stonkin' fast, for sure. But the LS7 Vette scorches them all, to a second quicker and ~10 mph faster in the 1/4. The LS7s I've driven simply blew my mind (and the ZR1, which I've not driven, simply makes me shudder when I imagine it).

I was happy to see Car and Driver pull off a 3.9 0-60 and a 12.x @ 119 mph from an AUTO CTS-v in a follow-up test. That trap speed is more what I had hoped to see, as the less powerful M5 has turned in trap speeds of that magnitude.

I've yet to drive a CTS-V, but someday... You lucky bastage.
