They did do that, it s called the Grand Prix GXP, it goes on sale this month. They are $27K after rebate.

It just looks plain tacky. If tacky is exciting to you, there is a wealth of GM autodom floating around out there on the used car scene. A 21st century car should NOT look this way if it's to present a classic, exciting image. The 300 you mention and the 05 Mustang fall into that catagory. The GTO belongs there as well, but not with that styling.
The GTO is far from square, it anything you should say it is too round, are even talking about the same car? The '04-05 right Pontiac has put out some great looking cars over the past 3 year, 98-02 WS6 Trans Am is my favorite.

I didn't know the GXP came out this month. I will definately have to check it out, I wonder if any of the sales people have even heard of a GP GXP by now. I will go find out at lunch and post the results back here. It should be good for a laugh.

Drives the wrong set of wheels for some of us old-timers.

As usual ppl on here are as devided as ever! I like the MT one, but I really like the dream cruise one, it looks agressive as hell and mean. I sent it over to one of my new neighbors to get his reaction, he hates the current GTO, and SSR. Can't please everyone!

no we're not talking about the same car. I actually LIKE the current GTO. it may be on the simple side, but it's CLEAN and it's lines are flowing. there's nothing jarring there to stick in your eyes like an icepick. to me, Pontiac's (and largly GM's) styling early '70s on is just sad when compared to the tastful plataeu of the 50's and 60's. look at the first gen Camaros and Firebirds. CLASSIC designs! then GM went and ruined them with the 2nd gen and the sales I think reflected that by dropping to HALF the rate of the first gens. the WS6 is the perfect example of GM's horribly disjointed styling. it looked like a gherish abomination to me and so does the GTO concept posted by Darth at the begining of this thread. that's what you quoted me as talking about.

Re: Next GTO??

Later 2nd Gens outsold 1sts. Most years of the 3rd outsold the 2nd and some came extremely close to 1sts. I think some 1st Gens are really nice, but nothing compared to top 3rd Gens. Just look at both overall or next to each other, two very nice and popular designs that'll surely always be thought of that way. Style is mostly opinion, sometimes you can't equate it to sales, and sometimes you can, but it really usually depends on the car as a whole and when it is brought out.
