BTW, I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but MT said that the design is being done by the same guy who did the Monaro.
sorry, but that "GTO" is NOTHING like the 300C in that "modern retro" respect. it looks more like a mid-80s to early-90s fugly squared off Grand Prix which still to me represents everything that is wrong with GM styling 1970s and upward until very recently. It just looks plain tacky. If tacky is exciting to you, there is a wealth of GM autodom floating around out there on the used car scene. A 21st century car should NOT look this way if it's to present a classic, exciting image. The 300 you mention and the 05 Mustang fall into that catagory. The GTO belongs there as well, but not with that styling.

Ack I pray the next GTO doesnt look anything like that. Reminds me of the early 90's Grand Prix's with the small slits with the headlights recessed within.

Re: Next GTO??

Am I missing something with regards to the GTO or what? Everyone loves the handling, power, comfort, interior, etc. of the Monaro/GTO, but the outside is simply ugly.

Instead of getting hung up on next gen platforms, why don't they just give the current one a facelift (albeit a fairly extensive one - it will take a lot of plastic surgery to make that thing beautiful). We love it mechancally, hate it's exterior.

It's interesting that today's GTO is considered "bland" by so many, and it "doesn't look like a GTO" to so many others.

Yet, the MT drawing, which is not over-the-top styled IMO, yet looks like a "GTO", is getting more of people balking at it thatn I thought it would.

And GM didn't even draw that one...

Eh, I really like it... I think it is bold, sharp and tight without being cartoonishly outrageous.

Re: Next GTO??

Great, now the new GTO will look like a 77 Firebird. Why not just call it a FIREBIRD, because that's what it is.

You're right. I don't get this double reaction either. IMO the front clip (which is all we've seen) does look Firebird-ish, though. That said, it's a step up from the GTO we have now.

Me either

Some sharper edges and higher waistline would look good in '08.

Re: Next GTO??

Yes, that Motor Trend GTO makes me want to vomit. The 99 concept was ridiculously ugly. The Dream Cruise one is pretty good.

The 04/05 Models are so much better looking than either the concept or that MT drawing. Especially the 05's with the ricer-hood-delete. Everyone that was whining about them wanted them to look exactly like this.

There may also be more Holden influence but we shall see.
I do see a lot of similarities with the 99 concept.

I dont understand why they dont take a cheap car put a V8 in it and call it a GTO like they did in the old days?

Re: Next GTO??

Because it would still be a FWD car, most likely a GP.

They have..... it's called the CTS-V..... they just forgot about the cheap car part of the equation.

Oh wait, they are doing it again with the Grand Prix GXP but that one doesn't drive the wheels expected of a car called GTO. So, like IZ28 said....

Not to knock the GXP, it looks like a very nice car (and not that outrageously priced either) but were it called GTO, hmmm.... given the bruhaha put up by the "faithful" over the very nicely done current car (IMO), they would have burned down the Rennaisance Center, for sure.
