Good to know who will, and who won't hand you your ***

 

Because American society is obsessed with 1/4 mile times. Besides, what car is designed for the 1/4 mile nowadays?

 

For me, it's not an obsession with the 1/4 mile, it's the overhype of the STI. I hear so many that think they can buy one and have a 12 second car off the lot. If you go to the big Subaru forums, like http://www.nasioc.com/ and look up what guys are actually running in these cars, they are lucky to hit low 13's stock, and most don't even hit 100 mph in the traps with a stock STI. Now I'm not saying that 13.4@99 is a slow car, but it's not nearly as fast as so many seem to think the STi and EVO are. It's just a frustration of mine.

The STi's are great track cars, and all year drivers, but are not my taste. No doubt.

I would be lying if I said I didn't like the cars, because in all honesty I think they are pretty sweet (hate the new front end though.) However, I don't see them being any part of some revolution in automotive performance. Given the choice, I would much rather have an LS1 fbody.

 

I am at a sea level track here in houston. My old 383 Vette would drop 3 mph with a good launch but my e/t would be better.

I have no oil consuption problems. Thoes were for early production cars. LS1s had piston slap problems and the 03 Cobra motor had its share of issues as well. I have a late build 05 and I havnt seen any problens with any of the 05s.

 

Does your Subie exhibit any signs of valve tap? Most Subaru's I have been around tend to do this quite abit, and as they get the mileage on them they seem to get alot louder, but I don't know how the new ones are about it.

 

None so far. The only other Suby I have had experiance with was my uncles early 80s wagon that went 225k ish miles on the original motor and trans. It didnt die he just sold it after 15 years.

 

To further the arguement, who cares what these cars run stock; being turbocharged, they are soo easy and cheap to mod. a $300 ECU flash will get you down in the 12's real easy. There are plenty of stock 12 second time slips over on EvoM if you care to check them out. Not on the '03's, but the newer ones with the better turbos can squeak a high 12 out.

 

And folks that think STi can't run 12s haven't seen a lot of STis run then!

That was my point. Most nights you aren't going to see a stock LS1 F-body run 12s.

Same with STi. Both happen rarely while completely stock.

I say both an stock LS1 F-body and STi run low 13s stock, with the F-body trapping around 105-107 and the STi trapping around 101-103. Both can hit high, high 12s stock under perfect conditions with very, very good drivers.

It just happens here in Houston in Oct.-Nov. a litte bit more than most other places. Sea level track with 70 deg. weather doesn't hurt.
